"I can't for the life of me see how Bob can lose. l am not the least bit anxious about the outcome of the fight, for I feel certain that he will win. Of coarse I know that Mr. Corbett is a great Boxer, but isn't Bob just great? On the day of the fight I know that I Will be terribly nervous and will suffer a good deal more than the men in the ring. This is only natural, as it means so much to us. When Bob wins we will be rich. Why do I think Bob will win? Well, in the first place he has been in so many hard fights where his opponent was reckoned invincible, yet he defeated them all with comparative ease? Take his fight with Jack Dempsey, for instance: At that time Dempsey was considered a marvel; he was at his best, and I remember that at the time a theatrical manager was seriously considering the advisability of backing him against John L. Sullivan. That shows how good Dempsey was when Bob defeated him. Dan Creedon, Jim Hall and Peter Maher were all easily disposed of by Bob - so easily in fact that no one knows just HOW good Bob is? That will be shown, though, within a short time." - MRS ROSE FITZSIMMONS ***************** "Do I think Jim will win in the big fight? Why that is a most useless question. How can I help not thinking so? Isn't he the Champion Of The World? And hasn't he whipped all the other big fighters? And the way he outclasses them I wonder at the hardihood of anyone who should challenge him though? It seems like flying in the face of fate. Jim says that after this fight he will retire from the ring, and on this account I will be glad when it is all over, for fighting is a very hard business. I know if I were a man I would never be a fighter. It must be terrible to be hit in the face, the way Jim punches that bag!? I feel bad for Bob!? How do I know Jim will win? Why he says so himself! And he knows as much about fighting as anyone alive? Besides I really can't see how he CAN lose? That may be a true woman's reasoning, but it's the best I can give." - MRS JESSIE TAYLOR CORBETT
Classic stuff Mel. Keep it coming! Mrs C. was likely quiet during the actual fight but Rose “Hit em in the slats, Bob!” Fitzsimmon was well documented as being very vocal in her support of Bob.
Kind of glad Fitzsimmons won in the end cuz Corbett’s wife was displaying a ridiculous amount of overconfidence (to almost a narcissistic degree) that can only be rivaled by Corbett himself. They were truly meant for eachother
