Lancashire Evening Post - Wednesday 21 August 1889
    FIGHT FOR CHAMPIONSHIP OF LANCASHIRE.
A glove fight for the feather weight championship Lancashire took place last night at the Lyceum Theatre, Pembroke-place, Liverpool the competitors being T. Tooley, of Manchester, and Sylvie Burns, of Liverpool, the stakes being £20, and the conditions the best of ten rounds. Both men are well known, and great interest was evinced the contest, which was witnessed by a very large audience. Captain Somers was the referee. The first round was pretty evenly fought, but in the second Tooley showed much superiority, flooring his opponent twice. In the following rounds, although occasionally Burns put in some hard hits, he was usually receiver-general and the decision of the referee in favour of Tooley met with universal approval. There was lot of betting on the result, and much disappointment was shown the local division of sportsmen st the defeat Bums.

It said Harry Walton had fought Jimmie Hogan, Billy Peterson, Tommy Warren, Jack Farrell or Harlem, Martin Dempsey and Willie Haas in 4 round fights. Winning them all apart from Farrell and Warren which were draws.
