Another instructive podcast. Listen to the words from GTD the great pound for pound fighter. https://youtu.be/t_mx2uB2Kms?si=PTdXqbImDdyUqKUB
I've always thought that tank's talent is for real. He's too coward to take risks, though, so he is a nobody and he will always be a nobody. In 2 years after retirement not even his own mother will remember his name. A total waste of talent.
This will be Tank's what... his eighth opponent dragged up from a lower weight class? Ninth? @Serge did the legwork here, all credit to him. Tank Davis Notable wins... Yuriorkis Gamboa was the WBA regular champ, 38 y/o and shot to hell and was a real world champion way back in 2013. Gamboa had one leg from the 2nd on and it still lasted until the 12th. Where was Tank's vaunted power here? "One-legged old Gamboa lasts ten rounds after second round injury" should have been the headline. Cristobal Cruz was 38, shot to bits, a world champion way back in 2009 down at 126, as was 1-7-2 in his last 11 fights Hugo Ruiz was a world champion down at 122 Jesus Marcelo Cuellar was a former WBA regular champion down at 126, a career 126 who never fought at 130, and was coming off a 16 month layoff and a loss but was somehow nominated to contest the vacant 130 title with Tank. Leo Santa Cruz was the IBF champ at 118, the WBC champ at 122, the WBA champ at 126, and he won the WBA belt in his previous fight, and his fight at 130, when paired up for the vacant title against a fellow 126 pounder Hector Garcia was the champ at 130 and dragged up to 135. I could go on but won't. Surprised Tank hasn't added a catchweight/rehydration clause as part of the standard contract now. Davis could be the real deal but his fear won't let him break through so his resume is garbage littered with asterisks that casuals eat up.
I once made a thread on what Tank discussed at 43 mins regarding why Floyd was upset with him. I was promptly banned for a week or so. They said I was spreading gossip
I don’t actually believe the rumours were true though I think Tank is saying Floyd may have believed it.
Yep agree with this. Tank has all the talent in the world good skill set, great power and he appears to have a solid chin so I don't know why he is so afraid to mix it up with these other guys. The likes of Haney and Shakur haven't got any hope of hurting him there best shot is to jab and run all night. Teo is the only threat power wise and I still think Tank would beat him.
Yep even his biggest win against Garcia has a huge asterisks because he demanded a rehydration clause. I reckon he would've beaten Garcia anyway but he made sure to have every advantage. There is no doubt Ryan was compromised.
Frank Martin arguably was. And Ryan Garcia was on many peoples top 10 at 135, after he beat Campbell. But that was several years before the Davis fight, and Garcia was campaigning at 140 before moving back down to face Davis. But thats as generous as I can be.
