Boxing has to be the only sport where you can sit around and do nothing but talk and get a shot at a world title. smdh

Tyson Fury vacated the WBA "super" belt. Luis Ortiz vacated the WBA "interim" belt.

The winner of Browne-Briggs will be the sole WBA champ.

Oh, and Fres Oquendo, who will have been out of the ring since 2014 (three years), will be the mandatory. Looks like David Haye is out.

Who would've guessed that not only would Shannon Briggs be fighting for the vacant title, but David Haye won't even be considered for a first defense?

Not only that, I believe Fres Oquendo announced his retirement recently. Now he's the mando.

    Ridiculous.

The WBA had no choice with the winner of this fight to fight Oquendo. A court order dictates that has to happen.

The WBO have David Haye set to fight the winner of Parker vs Ruiz.

Nope. It's been painted to look that way by the people who'd like it to but it's actually the WBA "Regular" title that Briggs and Browne will be fighting for, and they will have to defend against Oquendo.

AJ vs Klitschko has been approved for the WBA "Super" champ.

In all the mess, WBA is looking like the worst joke imho.

Joshua vs Klitschko makes sense for the 'super' title and they had no choice with Browne or Oquendo for the 'regular' title. If Oquendo had have been fit he was in and it would have been Browne or Oquendo. So the only odd one out is Briggs.

I hope Browne wins after an entertaining fight. Then we can setup a New Zealand vs Australia battle.

No, they approved that fight at the request of those two camps. But it didn't come off. And it never will now.

Browne will be the only WBA champ. He'll be able to become a "super" champ - if they're going to continue with that nonsense - if he unifies against someone else.

Nothing about their "super" titles makes sense. But Wlad-Joshua is never going to happen now.

Oh. I see - you're right... I made an assumption the WBA superchamp was the overall WBA champ.... I just looked it up, and found this (more for others):

If a fighter with multiple titles also holds the WBA's title, the fighter is promoted to "Super Champion" and the WBA title—which is then referred to as the "Regular" title—becomes vacant for competition by other WBA-ranked boxers. As a result, the WBA's official list of champions will often show a "WBA Super World Champion" and a "WBA World Champion" for the same weight class, instead of simply "WBA Champion."

    That's ******ed.

They are fighting for the regular belt - with the Super belt left open for AJ and Wlad, as per Dan earlier.

What makes you think Wlad-Joshua won't happen now? The WBA have sanctioned it.
