Freddie Roach has been the object of much criticism in the boxing world as of late. From his advocating this bout against the apparent wishes of his fighter from the very outset...to his bold claim that he would not accept payment should Pacman lose...to his outright prediction of Pac by stoppage. Many wondered if Roach was on the take, or if Roach just wanted to get paid. His intentions were doubted by outsiders, and even his loyalties were called into question...along with his sanity. ...but Roach was right all along. He was right to advocate the bout, and he was right in his approach to the fight, he was right in regard to his training methods and preparations pre-Oscar, and he was right about the proper strategy to bring...and he was right about his fighter's ability to execute it. I am among the many who owe Freddie Roach an apology...and a congratulations, job well done. If anybody ever deserved to say I told you so, it's Freddie Roach.
Not "The world". Just those guys who dissed him and told everybody that Freddie was a crazy, mentally degenerating, money hungry shyster.
when Freddy said Manny can do it.. i believed him... but i had doubts. my apologies for him is not because i thought he was crazy but because i doubted him and his student... "the pacman" overall, freddy looked like a prophet after yesterdays fight.
I thought Roach was either nuts or looking for the payday and I lost all respect for him. I guess I will never ever second guess him or his motives again. The guy knows his stuff and was right about Oscar being old and not being able to pull the trigger. Sorry Mr. Roach
I do, i thought that he was selling pac out and it pissed me off...but he said from the start that Oscar was shot, and if he didnt think that Pac had a shot at winning he wouldnt have let him take the fight... Props to Freddie for knowing that Oscars bones were ripe for the picking..
i had my doubts about this fight, but if you listened to freddie in the corner he was also telling manny the perfect advice.... stay off the ropes, dont get lazy, stay in the middle of the ring, he was spot on in the pre-fight and during the fight.... and further more he had the right strategy for dlh beating floyd, dlh just wouldnt jab despite freddie telling him too
Truth passes through 3 stages: 1 - it is ridiculed. 2 - it is violently opposed. 3 - it is accepted as being self-evident.
I hope Freddie enjoyed every minute of Saturday night. I didn't watch any of 24/7, so I was pretty taken aback during the night at how much his condition has advanced. What a moment for him and Manny.
It's good to see some at ESB have the integrity to man up, and apologize to Roach...there should be more however.
