The question is: who took the worst beating in the history of televised or more accurately filmed boxing matches in a single fight? Some examples that I've seen would be: Jess Willard from Jack Dempsey (this might well be the worst I've seen so I'll put this at the top) Muhammad Ali from Larry Holmes Tommy Collins from Jimmy Carter Edwin Rosario and Meldrick Taylor from Julio Cesar Chavez Davey Moore from Roberto Duran Nigel Benn and G-Man gave each other a horrible beating Any other suggestion?
Vitali / Briggs was unwholesome Boom Boom Mancini put on a life ending beating on an unfortunate Korean boxer. If I can do MMA I have some humdingers to add
Back in the 90's I think, heavyweight prospect Alex Garcia beat this guy Benard Benton where he had him trapped on the ropes and just pounded and pounded while the ref just stood there. Benton was lucky he wasn't killed
Emile Griffith-Benny "Kid" Paret on March 24, 1962...broadcast on ABC TV. Paret went into a coma and died 10 days later after appox. 29 straight punches to the head from Griffith as Paret was pinned in the corner.
Vitali vs Briggs. Briggs was hurt and had that dangerous look about him that tragedy might happen Calzage vs Lacy. A pasting. Lacy took way too many punches. Mercer vs Morrison. The ref fell asleep. Should have been stopped much sooner.
Calzaghe vs lacy was total 12 round beating Fights were they beat each other Andries vs harding III Hearns vs Barclay II
Luis Santana v. Simon Brown Bobby Chacon v. Cornelius Boza Edwards II Jimmy Garcia v. Gabe Rueles Lavander Johnson v. Jesus Chavez
Nelson Wolgast is truly horrifying in hindsight. That is one part of the good old days that I don't miss.
