The coverted Lonsdale belt has thrown up many a classic fight but some stinkers as well.

By far the worst British title fight I have ever had the misfortune to see was Hughroy Currie v Funso Banjo British HW title fight 1985.

It was a fight that had the mainstream press reporting it because it was so bad it was the lowest point the HW division has EVER seen imo in this country.

What's the worst British title fight you can recall?

I had the misfortune of sitting through Akinwande/Nelson; it was no British title fight.

    As for this 'klitch'...

For me the era of early/mid 80s Heavyweight title fights come to mind:

I go for Ferris/Aird closely followed by Hughroy and Funso!

Haskins v Broadhurst a few years back was poor.

Michael Sprott beating Danny Williams for the title was a stinker from what I can remember.

Can't remember if it was a British title fight or not but the worst, most frustrating fight I have ever seen was Audley Harrison v Danny Williams. For 11 rounds they did nothing until Williams clubbed Audley to canvas in the 12th which sparked a slight improvement in the contest. Williams said he had a sore ankle afterwards which prevented him from his usual attacks which could be true. Barry Mcguigan labelled Audley a coward after the match. Subsequently Audley stopped Williams in a rematch a couple years later a better contest.

    Williams vs McPhilbin.

Haskins vs Broadhurst was bad, messy and downright ugly but you know both guys have ability. The Williams fight was like a small undercard bout, I don't begrudge the boys at all but it was really low level stuff.

TBH Williams could have 2nd place with his awful fight with Norton..
