What are some of the most idiotic and damn right embarrassing commentating jobs done on fights throughout history. I nominate George Foreman licking Trinidad's nuts despite the Puerto Rican getting his head boxed off by Bernard Hopkins.
Jim Watt on Haye-Valuev "Haye only landed 4 or 5 shots, you cannot give someone a round for only landing 4 or 5 shots, so I'm giving that round to Valuev, who landed absolutely nothing."
"He went to his corner and laid his legs flat out, but Trinidad, he's still sitting in a sitting position" (something along them lines) On why he thought Hopkins was gassing against Tito. Gotta love big George, not a great commentator, but a great person!
A recent one I noticed, was Duke Mckenzie's analysis of Khan's performance against Paulie the other week. Not terrible in any way, but just wasn't reflective of what was going on in the ring.
Lampley in every fight. That guy couldn't tell a landed punch from a missed one if he was the one getting punched at. And he influences alot of viewers with his dumbassness.
Tyson/Mcneeley commentary sticks out in my mind, despite that it was only 90 seconds or so. The phony enthusiasm along with trying to position Mcneeley as a legitimate threat pre-fight was a joke.
Foreman has always been horrendous. He was trying to suggest Barrera was a boring fighter because he didn't go for the knockout against Johnny Tapia...even though I'd argue he did in the 12th round. Larry, the absolute legend, put him in his place though. "Barrera has given us many fantastic fights in his career, one fight is not the difference, George".
Lampley is a disgrace. A challenger to HBOs fighter can landed 20 shots and Lampley says absolutely nothing... the HBO fighter lands one shot and it's "HARD RIGHT HAND FROM _______" Look at Pavlik-Martinez.. any time Pavlik lands even grazing shots it's "HARD RIGHT HAND FROM PAVLIK!"... when Martinez busts his face open he doesn't even call the shots.
Al Bernstein (or was it Gus Johnson?) who said that Froch was picking Kessler apart in rd 1 of Kessler-Froch (a VERY even round). And when Froch was hanging on the ropes getting throttled later in the fight he was talking about Froch's wife being pregnant, how good Froch was etc. Doh!
lol figures I'd disagree. I actually enjoy Lampley 95% of the time and feel that he does an excellent job.
Anything Kellerman rants on about. This fraud ought to be fired and banished to a community service channel.:dead
Haye Vs Valuev sticks out big time - I remember arguing for Haye against like 10 people sitting around me because of the bull that was spewing from Watts mouth!
Yeah watching the HBO coverage of that fight, really pissed me off. Anything that Martinez would do, he'd be criticized for it by Merchant (who I normally like). The dude's fighting on the move against an opponent that's almost 2 divisions bigger than him, and Larry takes the **** out of him by saying he's on his bike.
Same happened to me mate. I had 5 family members in my living room trying to tell me that the fight was close and Haye was in danger of losing. Bull****. Haye was landing 4-5 clean shots...Valuev was landing nothing.
