I think Jean Pierre Coopman is a great first choice. From Hauser's description of his training and sparring in the Ali bio, it makes you wonder how he ever won a professional fight nonetheless held a country's national title.

No one has mentioned Tim Tomashek yet, late replacement though he was.

Was McClellan one round kayo victim Jay Bell worthy of consideration?

Iron Man Jack Callahan getting bushwhacked pretty easily by Matthew Hilton deserves a mention. Tough guy and hard trier, but not more than a local journeyman/main event in his hometown only fighter.

Eddie Ndukwu against Wilfredo Gomez should get a mention too.

Id like to nominate Eddie Croft.

In 2003 Croft fought for the wbc featherweight title against erik morales. Lets look at how Croft was doing to get a title shot

    1) hadnt fought in almost 3 years

    2) before getting this title fight he had lost his last 3 fights, all by KO

    3) his last win was 5 years previously, a split decision in 8 rounds over a 7-8 fighter

    4) his last win before that was 8 years before this title shot against Morales

Rough, actually it was determined at fight time that it was to be a non-title only. I can't recall specifically who nixed it. Probably not the WBC who didn't care who Gomez fought as long as they were getting their sanctioning fee, but I do believe the TV network may have had a say in it.

Tony Fisher - had a record of 6-11-1 with 6 no-decisions and somehow got a shot at middleweight champ Babe Risko. He had even lost his last two fights before his shot. I always heard Risko was mobbed up so I guess anything goes and no one back then was going to say anything about it.

Aliego, Louisa i Holmesa.
