ferguson golota and old holyfield may well have been totally undeserving, but they aren't amoung the worst fighters to get shots. even old holyfield was competitive with a fringe contender before his shot (oquendo) and arguably beat valuev (who should be a fringe contender as opposed to a belt holder). a guy like bobby gunn never even beat a contender in his life and had two shots. same w/ frazier (1 shot). golota was actually one of the top hw's at the time of the lewis fight regardless of whether his record shows two "losses" to bowe

It's also funny that he's trying to get a title shot against Valuev. A potential trilogy where one fighter lost in the first match and the rematch. That's sad.

That's what being connected to powerful promoters will do. :yep

Seriously, the Ruiz fraud is one of the most disgraceful chapters in boxing history - a glorified clubfighter rising to a level his mediocre abilities never would have merited, all because of corruption and cheating.

Lockett wasn't undefeated, he'd already dropped a decision to some Russian nobody earlier in his career. Pretty sure his last fight before the Pavlik massacre was against a fellow bum who'd lost as many fights as he'd won as well, so god only knows how that warrants a shot at the unified division champ.

Back on subject anyway, for worst guys ever to get shots at a belt you really don't need to look much further than Calzaghe's early defences (Tocker Pudwill anyone?) or the entire "reign" of Enzo Maccarinelli before he got exposed by Haye. How he had the balls to call himself a world champ fighting the likes of Booby Gunn & Mohammed Azzaoui I'll never know...
