it was a knock down, the ref was not that bad. A match up with wood is always going to be a dirty type of fight with alot of holding and stuff. Mundine is finished at the top level
yep... it was probably the shittiest fight derek has had to look after, but i think he did as good, if not better a job than most would have done given the tactics being used by both fighters.
I didnt think he was that bad either, it suprized me when he took a point off Mundine because i thought Derek was in Mundines pocket, especially considering he allowed Mundine to constantly push woods without one single warning, perhaps he took the point off to make it look like he wasnt so bias because up till that point i thought Woods was fighting two blokes, the Ref and Mundine. Its also valid to note that Derek was the guy Mundine used when he wanted to come in at 154 for the first time AND use his own scales.. Id have to look it up but im also pretty sure Derek has also been invloved in some shonky score cards. It would appear to me at the very least that Mundine was able to hand pick his referee yet again. I also dont think Fenech nor Billy H did him any favours, not one complaint to the referee whilst Mundine and his corner where CONSTANTLY complaining to the ref. Woods corner was far to complacent. Either way i think Mundine is shot. His combos have gone and his speed isnt there the entire fight, he did show more durability this fight but its going to take alot more than that to defeat anything other than domestic level fighters and in USA he wont be able to hand pick his own referee. The scoring was also a little out, one judge had it correct, the other two did not.
Listen, I'm not going to get all inflammatory and bag you here, I'll save that for the 'Trash Talk' thread, I'm going to a acknowledge that I agree with most of what you have said. But what I do have an issue with is, and some of these rounds where very close with aggression and work rate being countered with technique and effectiveness, saying that one judge, 95-93, had right to two judges, 96-92, didn't is silly talk. Judges don't like to give even rounds so two judges, and I think Mathew Paully would be an honest judge, saw one of the close rounds opposite to the other judge.
Gotta say that most of this is correct... I will point out this, the ref did consult (not sure who) someone between the 9th and 10th rd, not saying there was anything untoward, but before the 10th it was clear the reff was in Mundines corner. My personal view is that Milham knew the scores going into the 10th, and when the KD happened he knew he needed to look bad against Mundine hence taking a point away,..... Milham knew Mundine was too far ahead going into the lasrt rd plus KD that giving him a pt deduction was the perfect tonic to keep the redneck away .
How in the world did Woods camp ever agree to Milham being the ref? Didn't watch the fight, had just got off an airplane but read the reaction here last night and was told over the phone this morning that he was the third man. Or was it a case of a late switch with one of the Cairns pulling out at the last moment?
