    But he let Mayweather forearm smash Hatton at will . Never warned May about ducking below opponents waist when Hatton complained all Cortez said was " Don't hit him while he's down there Ricky":patsch Then to crown it all he took a point from Hatton for a rabbit punch when it was may that ducked outside the ropes the blow actually hit the top rope.
    No Cortez wasn't the only reason Hatton lost but Cortez was there just to make sure he didn't win:fire

    Despite the typical ignorance of the Yanks on ESB, the worse refs ever are Mercante Snr Cortez, and Nady.

    Not only are / were they incompetent, they were outright cheats.

    What Cortez did to Humberto Soto in his fight with Lorenzo was despicable.

    I've never seen Lampley and Steward more upset than they were about that.

    Cortez over officiates and inserts himself way too much into the action...but I feel the worst referee I've ever seen was the Canadian ref that officiated Bute vs Andrade I. That guy should never be allowed to ref a fight again.

    He's a lot worse than his father, to be honest. Marcante Sr. never botched a fight as badly as Jr. botched Cotto-Foreman.

    Mercante Jr.'s inability to officiate the fight may well have caused Beethoven Scottland his life, but Mercante Sr., to my knowledge, never officiated a fight where someone was fatally injured.

    No ref allows holding early in a fight.

    Hatton admitted Mayweather was too much on the inside....if anything..you should be glad cortez broke them up early.:deal
