And, also, its totally a moot point because Kov rarely weighs more than 185 fight night

Then why insist on a rehydration clause????

Because it's become a standard in boxing for same day weigh-ins to occur. It happened when Rigo moved up to fight Loma, it happened when Garcia fought Spence. It happens in IBF title fights. It's for fighter safety, so that naturally bigger guys don't have massive functional weight advantages on fight night.

hey, it’s an honor to be recognized by Golden Girl’s chief apologist. Wearing the special fishnets tonight to watch the fight?

Canelo didn’t care much about safety or weight differential when he fought Khan. It looked like a Ginger Hulk fighting jockey.

    WOW
Look I crap on the dude because of some items but Canelo is an excellent fighter in my view.
His head movements are delightful to watch and he has the best inside uppercut in the business right now

LOL they did not agree to a rehydration limit, however Canelo had to cut weight to make a 155 lb catchweight. If you are cutting weight to make a catchweight, then you're already making a big sacrifice. If there's no catchweight then it's easier to handle a rehydration limit.

I don't recall the rehydration clause being used when Clenelo fought Khan and Liam Smith...

No there wasn't, rehydration limits have become more commonplace in recent years. And when Canelo fought Khan he was already cutting weight to reach a 155 catchweight. A rehydration limit on top of a catchweight is very unusual. Usually it's one or the other.

But the Liam Smith fight wasn't held at a catchweight... Alvarez was eager to beat up a much smaller guy without rehydration clause and VADA testing.

That's true, but remember that was only 4 months after fighting Khan, and he fought Smith at 154, which was 1 lb lower than his fight with Khan. So he had to cut weight again to make 154 after fighting at 155. By that time many were aruging that Canelo was killing himself fighting at 154, that he should have moved up to MW by then. Well it was his last fight at 154 and he did struggle to make 154 for Smith.

FYI I'm not in any way advocating for rehydration limits. All I'm saying is that if you're going to complain about there being one for Canelo Kovalev then you should also have complained about it when Loma fought Rigo, when Spence fought Garcia etc.

Would you agree that rehydration limits make more sense when somebody is moving up multiple weight divisions as opposed to when a fighter is coming down in weight or fighting somebody of similar natural weight?

The irony of this is that I've repeatedly gone out of my way to criticize Oscar for dumb statements like when he said he wanted to make GGG wait for a 3rd fight or when he was in rehab during Canelo Mayweather fight week.

Like say what you want about me about being a Canelo fan but I've definitely not come close to defending Oscar.

There's plenty of examples of it happening in recent years. And if you recall during the ring walks of Canelo GGG 2 Jim Lampley mentioned about how commissions will be making morning weight checks more mandatory starting in 2019.

But like I said to the other poster, I want to make it clear that personally I don't like them. I am of the belief that once you make weight you should be able to rehydrate to whatever you want, you shouldn't have to get up early on the fight day and re-weigh in and possibly face financial penalties. All I'm against is the crying about it, and complaining about there being one here when it's happened in other fights and no one mentioned it or had a problem with it.
