it started great with some great fights like JMM v PAC, Taylor V Pavlik 2, Marquez v vasquez 3, casa v katsidis. we also had a good few intersting bouts to forward to like Mac V Haye, JC V BHOP, Marg V cintron 2 but things have gone **** since about march how many fights have been cancelled? i have lost count. I have a feeling that casa V JMM will be cancelled
fighter have been pulling out more than usual and the other calling out opponents with no real intention of fighting them. 2007 was a very good year IMO
i think 2008 is fine... i just think the Judah-Mosley fight left a big whole in the beginning of summer, plus Mayweather retiring made some watering mouths dry out of hope for a Mayweather-Cotto/Margo winner fight, but things could pick up the pace again after Cotto-Margarito if there are no more cancellations.
Antonio Margarito vs Miguel Cotto has all of the ingredients to be a classic, if Cotto decides to trade. If he was smart, he'd box on the outside like he did against Mosley.
Mate, I think it has been an unreal year thus far. Cancellations are part and parcel of the modern boxing milieu with television dates/ contract et cetera. We've still got what I have all confidence will be an instant classic in Cotto vs Margo. There's the possibility RJJ vs Joe (I don't care that they're old, I still reckon it'll be an interesting fight). Kessler could well fight either Pavlik or Miranda or both. It's still only June! Keep up the faith my good man!:good
i think it's been an excellent year so far jones-trinidad (ok it was an exhibition fight but it was entertaining) jmm-pac 2 (speaks for itself) pavlik-taylor 2 (interesting fight) vasquez-marquez 3 (speaks for itself) casamayor-katsidis (war) margarito-cintron 2 (one for the sadists) dawson-johnson (hellacious battle) diaz-campbell (my personal favorite) witter-bradley (interesting upset) hopkins-calzaghe (terrible fight but good spectacle) there's at least 10 more that i could name or am forgetting at the moment... i mean for chrissake ngoudjo fought m'baye on espn that's a pretty good quality fight for FNF
you know, casa - katsidis is still the best fight this year by far. That **** was just hype from the opening entrances all the way to the end. And yes, better than vasquez/marquez 3.
those fights won't have the appeal of last years summer and fall fights: We had: Pavlik V Taylor Hatton V Mayweather Mosley V Cotto Vasquez V Marquez MAB V Pacman Margarito V Williams calzaghe v kessler Cotto V Judah Hatton V Castillo every week there seemed to be a good fight to look forward to but saying that 2007 never started that well despite some of the good fights on offer. it got better with time. I would say though that 2008 has produced more classics so far than 2007
good thread. throw in the williams V Quintana fights, De Leon vs. Lopez, Forrest vs. Mora Mijares vs. Munoz Tarver vs. Woods Montiel vs. Castillo not all where any good but they were promising before hand
