    Recently watched several Gamboa amateur fights and three pro fights. I think he's the real deal. If he doesn't get too overconfident and can stay focused (not become Americanized) he will be champion one day.

    Does anyone have a copy of the Jimenez-Anchondo fight to make it into a YT video? I don't have the fight in my archive and it's not on YT (yet).

    I think the best thing to do is to put it out on YT and then the YT video here... It's a fight (and a KO) everyone should see to be able to judge Jimenez...

    Here's the latest Arena press release:

    Only a few days after WBO #2 rated Marcos Ramirez (25-0-0, 16KOs) pulled out of his fight against hot Cuban prospect Yuriorkis Gamboa (9-0-0, 8KOs) on May 17th featured on HBO’s “Boxing After Dark” joining promoters Ahmet Öner (ARENA Box-Promotion) and Gary Shaw (Gary Shaw Productions) present Gamboa’s new foe: Darling Jimenez from Puerto Rico.

    28-year-old Jimenez won 23 of his 27 pro-fights including 14 stoppages. He comes from six straight KO-wins, the last one against “The Powerful” Mike Anchondo (27-2-0, 19KOs) back in April 2007.

    Gamboa: “I don’t care who I’m fighting. I will knock out everybody who crosses my way to the world championship.”

    Promoter Ahmet Öner agrees: “Gamboa has to face strong opposition to develop and improve. Although he’s already competing at a level not many fighters ever reach in their careers. He’s nothing but a phenomenon – and he will prove that against Jimenez.”

    To show that he really is on the fast track Gamboa just bought himself a brand new Bentley to cruise to the streets of Miami as fast as he’s rushing through the ratings. The 2004 Olympic gold medallist and reigning NABF junior lightweight champion is already rated on #5 by the WBA and #8 by the WBC.

    I hope he's not gonna cruise Miami steets half as fast as he's rushing through the rankings... he should focus solely on his boxing career... Getting tons of money in very short time did so much damage to a lot of pro boxers in the past...

    While a new car is nothing to really worry about, I completely agree with you - I was hoping that he would stay away from the fame and fortune thing. Guys like him (that came from nothing) are prone to get caught up in it. Stay focused Yuri!!!!!!!!

    Cuban sensation Yurirokis Gamboa was on a radio talk show were he was asked wish current champion he would like to fight, to wish he asnwered



    "Well at this time, in regards to who boxing sees as the best boxer in this division, and who’s skill level is most admired is Manny Pacquiao, his the person everybody believes in right now, and I would like to fight Manny Pacquiao to demonstrate to the boxing fans that Pacquiao’s ability is not the only one that can dominate the division, and If I get to fight him I will show that my skill level is enough to be the best. And also I wanna thanks the host for allowing me to express how I feel to the world, and I understand that in pro boxing its not common for a guy with 10 fights to fight the world champion, but I want the people to know that I have the skill level, abilities and experience to take him on right now and take his palce"

    Well, it was right about time to call out the big names, especially the PACMAN! :)

    At the end of the year, he'll probably be a world champion. But I still don't want to believe that he'll stay at 130. For the first few big fights he should return to 126.

    I wasn't even hoping it because i knew it would never happen and would be impossible. Especially not if your from cuba and never had these luxury/material things.

    Apparently it already made an impact on his countryman Solis.
