Yeah, but his jumping of the boat skills are too good unfortunately. :verysad BTW the qestion here if the signing is true: will Gamboa fight on DK events like he's fighting on Gary Shaw shows in the US (with Öner making ALL decisions on opponent, trainer, etc.) or the King will have his word on these things... this is really important... if there's one good thing about Ahmet Öner is the way he's moving Gamboa forward with quality opponents, regular fights and very nice TV deals... and with Yuri's talent, he sky is the limit, so fighting regularly on different networks vs. elite level could make him a PacMan-like superstar... Just signing with Don King KOs the possibility of the Vazquez-Gamboa superfight. Believe me, Vazquez will move up (already planned) and Gamboa is small even for a FW - this fight is the future.
Gamboa returns to HBO BAD this weekend vs. undefeated Marcos Ramirez (25-0). Although Ramirez is not a world beater, he's a legitimate top15 FW opponent yet to lose a fight. I really hope Gamboa wins this one as well and gets a title shot by the end of the year. Why the hell not? The WBC and the IBF titles are vacant and and don't forget Steve Luevano's appereances on HBO, so the WBO is a possibility IMO as well...
Gamboa's camp is aiming for Oscar Lario's or Chris John's belt after this fight with Ramirez. Which one will it be? They say it will depend on the negociations.
Decent chance Gamboa knocks him out. John doesn't have a great chin, and unlike JMM in their fight, Yuri is actually aggressive.
I just realized that and edited my post right before you responded. My original post had been based on the original date this thread was started and the very first post of the thread which was dated back in January of 2008. Again my mistake, and thanks for posting the info about the up and coming bout. :good
Honestly, I don't see John going more than 6 rounds against Gamboa. John beating Gamboa seems impossible. People tend to think that Gamboa is all about power, they forgot the dude knows how to fight extremely well. But John don't have to take it personal, Gamboa could actually beat any current 126 champ and under right now. However, I do agree with you, Larios belt is just hanging there for someone to take it and it would be extremely easy for Gamboa to go for it.
Not going to happen as he's banned permanently from every US ring since the brain damage he suffered in the Linares fight. :-( By the way, Gamboa would knock the once great Larios' head off in a round or two... Oscar is not shot compared to other over-the-hill fighters, but he's far far away from the fighter once was at 122...
