Gamboa isn't ready for John since he's only fought a C+ level fighter ONCE and didn't look faultless either. Gamboa has a lot of proving to do before he deserves such a fight.
He's got a good start. He needs work on hes defence a bit but he looks promising. Definately exciting to watch.
LOL.....be easy. He's got the TOOLS and TALENT to be the future, but he's far from it at this point. Given his preformance on 10/4 only solidifies that he needs to be brought along in a controlled manner....progressively getting harder and more dangerous as he is moved along. Let's be honest...Gam is a great talent, has a lot of AM experience and is young. But the man needs to work on his "D". His beard is decent but he CAN be KO'd. He almost got KO'd on Saturday against a guy who isn't even ranked. Gam has to work on somethings and eliminate the bad habits he picked up from an extensive AM career.
Why would it stop?:huh He was clipped by the bow from a fighter whom was definitley not in Gam's leauge. Had the fighter across from Gamboa had been a top contender or ELITE....that bow would have been a flush right hand rather than a missed one that was followed by a elbow. And if that was Valero that Gam faught on 10/4 he would have been KO'd for sure.
he has already been knocked down and hurt by 2 journeyman. :rofl What do you think is going to happen when he has to fight a top contender?
Golden Boy Promotions to sign Gamboa? According to news on BS, GBP could knock out DKP's offer as Öner and King still haven't finalized the deal (DK was always interested in Solis anyway). Schaefer admits that there are discussions with Arena, they are very interested in Yuri, but nothing is finalized. I say: good news! HBO = GBP these days. You can't get a better deal than that.
It would be great news if he signs with GBP, since they're the US co-promoter for Linares and John. Makes it a lot easier to put good fights together.
According to Arena, the promoter of the featherweight talent, Gamboa will fight for an world title just after 12 pro fights! Since Larios is out with injury, the WBC ordered the fight between #2 Gamboa and #1 Elio Rojas for the interim belt. I think it's safe to say that it's a huge step up in competition, at the very moment Rojas is capable to give Gamboa much more trouble than the over-the-hill and unfortunately brain damaged Larios, who should retire immidiately to save his life. I'm very seriously concerned about his health, the last fighter who should hit him in the head is Gamboa... No info on date or venue yet, but I guess Gamboa-Rojas is not going to happen this year, my money would be on a January HBO BAD date. Anyways: is it too soon? What do you think of the opponent and the fight itself?
Elio Rojas? That's kind of a lame opponent. Guy's recently been beaten by Gamaliel Diaz, who's been whooped by just about every top fighter out there (although I heard the fight was a robbery). I would have hoped it would at least be against Jose Rojas, who's at least beaten some good fighters. It's an interesting prospect-prospect fight, but it's a joke if it's for a belt. Rojas could be dangerous though. He has good power when he sits on his punches, and is a decent boxer with decent speed, so he has a puncher's chance.
i think he is the future...i like him a lot, but he needs to get some basic fundamentals together first. He has amazing speed and skills, but his D is leaky.
I guess it would depend on how many BAD dates there will be in January. I'm pretty sure that on the 17th they are doing the Duddy/Hearns and Kid Chocolate/McGirt, Jr. doubleheader. The next week, WCB is probably doing Margarito/Mosley. I'm looking forward to this if it comes off.
