Gamboa won't be the future of boxing if he continues to fight like an amateur like he's been doing since the beginning of his pro career.

IMO, he is unbeatable @ 126. At 130-135...not so much. It was a smart move by his camp to campaign at a lower weight because he'll be so much bigger than everybody else in that division. He'll move back up in weight before long once he starts getting bigger fights and more money. I would've loved to see him beat the **** out of Linares but he jumped ship to 130. It could still happen though.

Not at all... every single elite fighter in the 126 and 130 class is taller than Gamboa. In fact, other than Israel Vazquez, every elite 122 pounder is taller than Gamboa. He's a short guy, that's why he's extremely aggressive all the time. Also, that could be his curse as well... as short as he is, he NEEDS to jump in with his flashy combos but there's room to catch him coming in. Also, he uses upper body movement a lot of the time to get away from shots, but unlike Hamed for example, who wasn't always the shorter guy, Gamboa's opponents' reach can cause him trouble. He was a Flyweight in the Olympics, and I always thought SBW would be his best division, but he put on a lot of muscle weight since 2004, so 122 is out of the question.

Gamboa won again, but got knocked down again in the 2nd round, another flash knockdown. Other than that, he was dominating and the ref stepped in in the 10th, because the opponent was not responding.

So another fight to split the community to Gamboa fans and Gamboa haters, one half rooting for the great victories, the other half looking for the knockout loss. That's the way it is. :deal

BTW: most agree that a change is needed in Gamboa's corner. Who would you suggest as lead trainer? Of course you have to consider that he doesn't speak English, or at least I've never heard him speaking it.

A lot of people seem to dislike Gamboa because of fans who are hyping him (too much) and because of his kd's. But I don't care that he gets knocked down. This guy is super entertaining and has such a smooth technique. He punches beautifully. I enjoy every second of his fights and I'll be happy for him once he becomes a champion. His chin isn't great but so what?

    Peace

what i don't understand is that khan takes loads of **** for having a glass chin and gamboa seems to go down in a lot of his fights and yet he's the second coming. i must admit i haven't seen many of gamboa's fights and didn't see this one, so can't comment too much, but surely he shouldn't be going down this much whilst at this level. what's the difference here?

Wacht one fight of Khan and one fight of Gamboa and you'll see the difference.

Even though Gamboa gets knocked down quite easily, he a monster. Super aggressive and always on the offensive.

that don't make you a potential elite fighter, the same can be said for khan, his offence is excellent.

By 'difference' do you mean 'exactly the same'?

27 y/o. His amateur record shows only about 110 fights. All of them after making the Cuban national team. SO you know he had at least 200. He is at his peak. He won't get any better. His opponent was KO in his previous fight. Gamboa didn't eveen know how to knock him out. But ESPN didn't want a desicion on the guys record. The stoppage was a joke. He could become world champion if he chooses the right opponent. Just like Ponce de Leon did. But he is a KO waiting to happen.
