yeah that was a dangerous fight for both sides til Mitchell landed that huge punch. both of them were in trouble the whole fight. actually, estrada almost KOd Mitchel in the 2nd round, but he let his chance go
Interesting article from James Slater: Yuriorkis Gamboa-Walter Estrada - A Backwards Step For The Prospect? http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=18794&more=1 He writes: "But when a fighter is hyped up as much as Gamboa has been, and when his team says he will definitely be the best P-4-P fighter in the world one day, should he really be moving back down in class at the age of 27? No-one is a bigger fan of the exciting Miami-based Cuban than me, but there is, for the first time, a nagging concern that Gamboa may not actually be as good as we thought he was." One simple question to the author: have you ever heard of a keep busy fight? That's what it is, P4P-ers like Rafael Marquez and Israel Vasquez will have one shortly, so it's no step back at all. Gamboa has a busy schedule, and after January, he and was supposed return in April. But now here's the opportunity for another FNF main even, so why not have a soft fight on TV instead of having no fight? Win-win situation.
Nothing out of the ordinary with his schedule. I have seen that too many times when boxers are coming up. In his case, he is 27y/o, he can't waste anytime. All those "schedule fights" are subject to what happens in each fight. I still think he is going to get KO very soon!
I have no problem with keep busy fights for young prospects. I am sure we will see some of the same in this fight Gamboa will get knocked down and then end up winning while his nuthuggers will tell us he has no Chin issues. Sooner or later he is going to get brutally KOed do to his Glass Jaw. Gamboa is a brutal KO waiting to happen.
lol at the boxing writers... sometimes you wonder how they got their job... The story is real simple, Gamboa was and is scheduled for an April bout to get his first interim title shot. In the meanwhile, Arena is having a show on February where only Prescott, Lara and Gutierrez were supposed to be featured. Yuri himself then asked his promoters to be included in the card to stay busy and they accepted. Now, try to find someone on short notice to fight Gamboa, good luck...
I can't wait to see Estrada drop Gamboa.:rofl Gamboa is overrated. There's a reason he dropped down to 126 and there's also a reason his camp isn't interested in fighting Elio Rojas.
Gamboa is going to be the new "IT" guy who everyone predicts to lose by KO every time he fights yet it never happens.
Walter Estrada weighed in at 130.5, Gamboa at 130. So this fight will be at SFW again. The fight will be aired tonight on ESPN2 FNF main event. Look for Breidis Prescott's return and also Erislandy Lara's next fight as well. The show starts at 9PM ET.
