Even after he does something tremendous (and in tremendous fashion) people are bitchin? Jesus. Rojas is a great name for ANY fighter to have on his resume under 20 fights. Some of you expect too much and credit too little.
Gamboa did a good job of calming down and pacing himself against Rojas, he looked really good at times but seemed to back off at times, either way a good prerformance.
And the NEW WBA Interim Featherweight Champion of the World: YURIORKIS GAMBOA! :happy This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected I think it was a very surpising fight, as most of the believers looked for another sensational knockout, and most of the haters looked Gamboa to be exposed or knocked out - instead of that, Yuri went out with a game plan, pacing himself, looking for countering opportunities, fighting defensive minded and dominated the fight from start to finish. Make no mistake: Rojas knocked out Celestino Caballero and was ahead on 2 cards in the 1st John fight when it was stopped due to a cut. He was pretty hard to hit even by the World FW Champ in the rematch, and Gamboa tagged him with huge, staggering shots. Other than few shots he took here and there, Yuri looked like he's the complete package both on offensive and on the defensive side, and showed very good counter-offensive skills. The stoppage was in the air for rounds, and as good as Rojas' chin was, his face showed Gamboa's punching power after 3 rounds: badly swollen and blood all over the place. I was surprised his corner never stopped it. Gamboa put on a mature, very pro-like performance and won every round, something Chris John failed to do vs. the same opponent, and even if Rojas never was close to being knocked out, Gamboa broke him down and scored a stoppage, another thing John failed to do. Good news or bad: John might be next or the fight before the end of the year for Gamboa: if you still have doubts in Yuri's skills, vs. the borderline P4P-er and Lineal World Featherweight Champion, Yuriorkis Gamboa will prove you right or wrong. Such an exciting fighter, even in a one-sided, slower-than-expected fight. Very impressive! :thumbsup

Quite interestingly, the fight was pretty much overlooked, no Rafael, Iole, or Marley article was written despite the fight being aired on Showtime. I guess because it was on Friday. However, here are two articles from the main page: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=19470&more=1 http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=19465&more=1
How was this for a title? Didn't John defend the belt a few weeks ago in his draw against Juarez? Why was there a need to create an interim belt for this title?
GAMBOA - CABALLERO POSSIBLE! In a HUGE breaking news Arena's Ahmet Öner told BT that a fight between new FW champ Yuriorkis Gamboa and The Ring P4P#9 Celestino Caballero is in serious discussions. WBA/IBF SFW champ Caballero first has to beat Jeffrey Mathebula on April 30, and if he's successful, the WW-sized Panamanian will move up to challenge WBA Interim FW champ Gamboa. WOW!
