Gamboa remains unbeaten with wide UD - Caballero next on July 17/24? Gamboa got the job than in a less explosive and rather one-sided fight in Hamburg vs. unbeaten and fairly skilled Victor Barros. El Ciclon boxed for the most part of the fight but knocked Barros down in the 8th and got caught with a big counter shot when he went after him, so he switch back to boxing - and practicing - mode. Official scores were 2x118-109 and 116-111. Next up for Gamboa could be The Ring P4P-er Celestino Caballero, but Pelenchin has to get past the little known but live underdog Daud Yordan first. Gamboa's pro record improves to: This content is protected + This content is protected + This content is protected = 18
Even though he lost like 3 rounds in his last 6 fights, I still think Gamboa should get an experienced professional trainer. Rigondeaux has Roach, Lara is looking to work with Ronnie Shields, and Gamboa should get a solid pro coach too, who can teach him the extra moves and tricks of this game, some physical fighting, tactical approach and you know, building up and executing a solid gameplan. Yuri "experimenting" in the ring vs. Barros is okay since he had the advantages, but I would've rather seen him settling down, coming out with a plan, working on the body and stuff, limiting the movement to necessary steps not dancing too much, less of the flashy stuff, studying Barros to come out with the right punches with the right timing, and breaking him down. Gamboa is on a very high level already at 18 fights, but he's not a finished product whatsoever. So in my view, for a more professional approach of fighting when feasting on flawed fighters' openings is not enough and a solid gameplan and execusion could help him a lot, El Ciclon needs a solid pro trainer, given all the talent, maybe an old school American coach.
My picks are: 1. Nacho Bernstein 2. Freddie Roach 3. Emmanuel Steward Orlando Cuellar isin't a bad trainer though.
My friend, no need to change to any " American trainer ". You seem to forget who has the best trainers and boxing schools in the World, CUBA. This is a proven fact. If American trainers are so good like you say and know it all then the Americans would be winning 90% of the times against the Cuban fighters but they are not, it's actually the contrary, the Cubans win 95% of the times... :-( Gamboa gets along great with Ismael Salas who was a great Cuban coach in Cuba. He is the one that has kept Gamboa sharp as nails. On the contrary, when an American coach gets his hands on a former Cuban amateur star completely throws him off with their different teachings and strange tactics...Not that American trainers are not good but Cuban boxers need to keep their Cuban skills alive and that can only be kept using an ex-amateur Cuban trainer that can adapt to the pro level but without leaving the great Cuban boxing skills behind... :bbb Example: When Casamayor started training with Joe Goossen, Joel became a totally different fighter. He became " very defensive " and this is why he lost those extra tight fights with Freitas, Castillo and Corrales. When Joel defected from Cuba ( first 4 or 5 fights ) he was a Lion KO'ing everyone in front of him " similar to Gamboa " but then started to box more, move more and defend more thus losing many tight fights that he needed to attack more and because of that " defensive " style that came from Goossen Joel lost many fights! Lara also should'nt have left Salas, I did'nt like that one bit. The Cuban amateurs need a Cuban amateur coach that can also adapt his training to the pros but WITHOUT losing the great Cuban skills that gave them so many Gold medals... :good
Forget those 3 trainers... Let me ask you a question: Do you think that if Rigondeaux would not be with Roach that he will achieve greatness? OF COURSE HE WILL. Roach is not leading Rigondeaux to stardom is Rigo's IMMENSE AND INCREDIBLE TALENT not Roach's guidance... :-( IT DOES'NT TAKE A GREAT COACH TO GET A BASEBALL TEAM FULL OF SUPERSTARS AND LEAD THEM TO THE TITLE, that's not a big accomplishment. Now, it really takes a " great manager " to get a " mediocre team " and make them win the Title !!! That's another story. The Cuban amateur greats are " already complete ", all they need is a helping eye from the outside that will " help " them win fights, not teach them a lot of things except one or two small things here and there... Cuba has the best trainers in the World not Americans... I would love to see a Cuba VS USA tournament when Cuba had the strongest team ever " the 1992 Olympic Team " and will love to see " Freddy Roach " on the opposite corner guiding the Americans... :rofl:rofl:rofl Same outcome, Cuba will still get 8 or 9 Gold medals and Roach ??? ENOUGH SAID. :good
i asked lara's wife a while ago why he left salas and she couldnt give me a straight answer but i remember her telling me that he couldnt find any quality sparring partners at all and i also remember her telling me that his last fight he was basically training by himself cuz salas was getitng gamboa ready for his hbo fight and they only really trained together for a few days
