This just popped into my mind: The Zivic brothers were one of the most well known boxing families of the old days. But apart from "not so civic-behaved" Fritzie and Eddie Zivic, I dont remember any more of them. Can anyone tell me more about Eddie and the others? Thanks in advance!
I uh, didn't realize Fritz wasn't an only child. And guessing I'm not alone in that, so wouldn't expect too much to be said of Eddie. edit: just had a look and he did eke out an MD victory over a near-retired Tony Canzoneri (after being stopped by Canzoneri three years earlier...and eventually losing the rubber match to him as well). That ain't nothing, I suppose.
I have seen lists of all time lightweights that included Jack Zivic, I think it was. Fritzie was in top 10 welterweight lists for years. My father grew up watching the Zivic brothers fight; he grew up in Pittsburgh and was Croatian. During WW2 he sparred an exhibition with Fritzie when they were both in the army. For clarification, the lightweight all time lists with a Zivic in them were from the early 1960s.
Very kool post. Did your Pop happen to elaborate on anything about Fritzie? Im a big Zivic fan. Actually bent that none of his son's put out a book about him.
He said that Fritzie had a raspy voice- I believe that is the word he used- and he told my father that it was due to getting hit in the throat while boxing.
