A prime Jones would get roughed up by a prime Calzaghe ?

:think Now out of all his fights at 175 and 168 on skill level where would you rank JOE in ?

    Starting way back around 95 96 .

The only one who was busy fights was Calzaghe, Jones was busy fighting champions at Light heavyweight till they ran out of them that he moved up for a champion in the HW division, if you don't know enough about the fighters Jones fought then sure, but calling them bums is ridiculous. Want to see true bums?, check out Joe Calzaghe's resume.

Jones is shot, his speed will only last one round or two till his stamina issues at this age finally kicks in and he's back to "flat footed" mode, meaning he'll be wide open for shots Calzaghe will throw. Against Calzaghe he needs to be active to win considering his style now as he's beyond shot and that won't be the case, even if he will be active he will do so for a few rounds and those few rounds won't be enough to win a 12 round fight. Yeah, Calzaghe is shot but is he as shot as Jones?, I don't think so and not even close, Calzaghe can still compete with the likes of Pavlik at this age, Jones can't and THAT'S why this fight is signed. Also, based on styles Jones would slice Calzaghe to pieces prime for prime and knock him out 6 rounds.

Jones offered a fight to Calzaghe in their primes and was turned down because Joe got injured in his hand and also claimed that Jones "needs" to travel if he wants this fight, you think that's fair?, that's plain out DUCKING. Jones was the #1 Super Middleweight after beating Toney, Calzaghe was nothing close to that at the time and even after beating 18 fruitcans in Wales, Lacy drops by as a new pro and captures the #1 spot in just a few fights, you don't even need to wonder why.

If Jones wins this then that's a GREAT accomplishment considering how shot he really is at this stage and a 40 year old but the chances for that are extremely unlikely. I said it a thousand times before and will never get bored of saying it as a HUGE fan of Jones I completely realise that Calzaghe took this fight when he was sure Jones will offer NOTHING to worry about, even if he does he only will for 2 rounds before he runs out of gas, which he will and sooner than expected, his activity during the fight will be the proof for you.

Ever wondered why Joe only recently traveled to America?, I thought it was mission impossible to do so in his prime?, that's because the guys he never attempted to fight back when he was in his prime and they were in their primes are now shot. I know this makes me sound like a hater, no I'm not a hater and if I was I will openly admit it like I did for Toney, this is just my honest opinion and how I truly feel about his resume and decisions.

Jones was a phenom in his prime, a fighter with legendary skills that is still and will forever be highly talked about even in the amateur training gyms, videos and pictures of him won't be all over the place by ANY serious boxing fan if he was overrated.

You watch enough of Jones and ignore posts then come tell me he's overrated. Make sure you understand movement and have your eyes on his legs as well as his hands. If you understand movement in boxing and flexibity and find his performances overrated then you must have serious issues.

Its funny that so many will be surprised, dare I say shocked when Jones 'upsets' Calzaghe.

My serious issues have nothing to do with posting on ESB, I just do this for fun & knowlege. No doubt what you say is correct. However, the reason I say slightly overrated is that he relied on his natural skills so much. I look @ a guy like Ali and over the years he was able to adapt to his limitatations caused by the 3 year exile and physical deterioration, I have not seen that quality yet with Jones.

Hell if Jones actually trains to win this fight instead of his usual half-ass job don't bet against it happening. :bbb

Far more likely that RJJ will KO Calzaghe than those who seem to be "sure" Popkins will KO Pavlik.

My only unresolved issue for Jones (since I think he still has enough power and speed in the heavier weight classes to at least KD Slappy given the latter's issues with leaving his face out) is whether his stamina will hold up past round 5.

Hopefully he'll be in shape enough to make the fight worthwhile - this could be interesting.

Although I'm still hoping that if Pavlik blows away Hop, and Slappy takes care of Roy - we could have a potential mouthwatering clash; The Ghost v The Dragon.

Surely there'd be a HUGE shout for this fight in the event of the two occuring. :happy :deal :thumbsup

Yeah it's funny how different fighters are like that :good .

Some seem to respond so well to adversity - when they have their backs against the wall they really shine. :smoke

And for others - when they lose confidence in their abilities they are just not able to overcome it.

Agreed. It's an interesting sub topic. Hopkins is another great example of a guy being able to adjust to the limitations of time. Maybe like cars, a guy like Hopkins is like an old Mercedes, they just keep going and going without many worries. Jones like a Ferrari, unless finely tuned frequently, the performance drops off dramatically.

If that's what you were referring to and not Jones' ability in his prime then you make a very good point. :good
