And so who's the idiot who started this completely untimely, and unnecessary thread ? The man's retired, ****head. Time to turn your hate on other targets.
From this era Calzaghe probably has the edge p4p on guys like Tszyu, Winky Wright, maybe even Ricardo Lopez. But I have him behind Mosley, Trinidad and now JM Marquez as well. And he is not nor ever was on the same level as Jones, Hopkins, Mayweather, Lewis, Pacquiao, Barrera, Morales, De La Hoya, Toney, Holyfield, etc.
Slapzaghe. Oh aye, I see what you did there. You replaced "Cal" with "Slap". That's genius mate. Pure ****ing genius! Well done. You total utter fandan.
I am American but I think Calzage is a great fighter, what I like about him is his ability to adapt...he dominated Jeff Lacy...he adjusted to Kessler to unify and moved out of his natural weight class to beat Hopkins and dominate jones.....at 168 I think he could hold his own with anyone and at 175 he still beats all the other fighters of the division...all the same he got out while on top and unbeaten....a very tough task
Some of these posts and threads are so stupid and tiresome! Americans (bashing calzaghe) Brits in turn bashing B-Hop. Debating who is better is cool, debating who would have won prime to prime is cool, debating who really won (a very close contest SD) their real fight is cool as well. Saying Calzaghe sucks shows you have NO KNOWLEDGE od boxing. Not liking his style, and challenging his resume are fine if you chose, but he beat some very fine fighters along the way. B-Hop as well had a great stint at MW, and has amazed me with how he has been able to maintain such a high level, when I wished he would have retired 3 years ago. To make it sound as if both or either suck show that most posters are idiots!!! Sorry, call it like I see it! It's fine to not like one and or like one better and debate the merits of it, but if either sucked I am left wondering who do you find was actually good??? If you can't enjoy or at least appreciate what both have accomplished, do us all a favor and go watch MMA and leave the real boxing fans alone!!!!
Yeah - stupid threads started by ... people. Calzaghe was great, never lost, is a legend, fought better opposition than people give him credit and got out of the sport with good health. On top of that he supposedly he even is 170/2 (or close) (while the two losses at amateur were controversial) if you include his amateur record. Sounds like a perfect boxing career to me.
Joe seems to be one of those boxers who gets vastly over rated by his proponents and vastly under rated by his detractors. In my mind he is a great fighter on par with any at his respective weight regardless of era. I would like to have seen him have a better signature win on his resume, but in this day and age of boxing the same can be said of 99.99% of boxers for the last 25+ years. I don't find him unbeatable, just because he is unbeaten...but also believ he would give any great of any era a most difficult night!
