History also shows us that Lewis won the only fight they ever had and won it legitimately.
Nothing will ever change that fact.

I think this absolutely correct. In some ways, Lewis dodged a bullet by getting the cut-induced TKO in his fight with Vitali.

IMO Vitali can't do much better than he did in the first fight, but if Lennox was in shape, motivated and not over confident like he was first time round then he fights a more controlled, intelligent fight and gradually breaks down Vitali for a late stoppage or decision.

Disagree. Vitali has he knew it was Lewis months ago trains harder. As it was he was prepping for a 10 round match vs a nobody.

Its clear Vitlai's skills, length, style and power bothered Lewis. Lewis could change nothing, he was being out boxed.

The cut, which could have been caused by an illegal backswipe of his glove over Vitlai's eye region mere seconds before the blood came was controversial. There is video of this, by the way. FightNews at the time reported loose tape on Lewis glove caused the cut. Or it could have been from the punch.

Either way, losing while ahead in a title fight via cut is very rare and by itself should be good enough to get the re-match. But Lewis didn't care how he won, he just did not want the re-match...not at any price!

Vitali confidence soared as seen by his next fight vs Johnson a fight I attended live, I always felt after seeing that fight he would win the rematch. Lewis aged well for a heavy, but he was having terrible trouble measuring distance against a man his own size. I think Vitali takes it. But you never know, to me it would take a lot of motivation on Lewis's part to come in ready for that fight cause, Vitali clearly wanted it.

    Vitali would win a rematch.

It's clear that he had the better of Lewis up until the cut started to play a role in the fight. Lewis was a diminished force by then, and Vitali was coming into his prime. Lennox did fantastically well to rally in the first fight, and he fought out of his skin to reverse a losing situation. Probably his career best performance. I don't think he'd have a second such performance in him, nor do I think he magically cuts vitali again.

, which is why, despite his voluminous words about it, he never took it.

naa ones got to go with fact, not fanboyism fantasy.

an early ko loss for vitali which ever way it looks - PRIME ABSOLUTE BEST vitali is extremely lucky that WORST EVER lewis was of retiring age so wasnt going to get a rematch for such a poor first showing of an early stoppage. 2 early stoppages might have ruined him.

    difference in class is obvious.

Who cares? Lewis was getting worse every month that went by due to age. At some point vk would beat him. I don't know if that point was one or two or three years from their fight (which lewi s won). Neither do I think it particularly matters.

Based on the timetable IMO Lewis opens up those cuts early. If there had been a rematch I would have been looking to put money on another cut stoppage, not enough time to heal and prepare solidly against the man that cut you three times in half a fight.
