Watch Spence in the leadup to the fight. The tired look was exacerbated in approach to the night, meaning it was the weight. He’s not particularly brain damaged/punch drunk. Just draining himself.

Yeah yeah, did the accident prevent Spence from being defensively sound? Did the accident cause Spence to continually lunge in, leaving him wide open for a counter. Did the accident effect Spence having a plan B when plan A wasn't working anymore by the second round? Did the accident effect his head movement? I'll except that the accident had an affect on his punch resistance, even though Spence had been rocked several times prior to the crash. But it wasn't his punch resistance that let him down, it was his game plan and failure to adapt.

I think people need to stop making excuses for Spence because he's not making any excuses publicly.

Regarding the accident, he probably was hiding the extent of the injuries to limit the attention he received from outside of the loop medical professionals, as you said his career was "on the grill" and he's a prize fighter, potentially with 10's of millions of dollars worth of earnings down the line.

In saying that, how bad could the injuries have been if he beat an elite 147 pounder in Garcia one year after his accident? You won't beat a talent like Garcia unless you're pretty much at 100% physically.

That was a PBC order to buy him time in my opinion. “Doc, get your ass up there and inspect him now”.

Maybe I'm using the term 'elite' too flippantly, how about in the top 3 human beings on the entire planet fighting at 147 pounds at the time of the fight.

As long as you can admit it’s a weak era for 147.

Hes been fighting at the same weight since he was a teenager.

Hes a strongly built guy who is 5'10.

He weighed 156 when he fought Van Heerden and looked shredded on the scale.

147 pounds has always been up there with the best fighters in the sport at any time in the past 25 years.

ODLH, Mosley, Pacquiao, Mayweather, now Crawford. All P4P number 1's at 147 pounds.

Was the 147 pound era weak in 2019? Compared to previous 147 pound era's, there's a bees dick in it in my opinion.

I think he’ll be ok. Spence mentioned he used to get beaten up for years in the gym when he started, but would show up regardless until it eventually turned. That’s how he strikes me. But he needs to stay away from Crawford, especially this year. December is 4 months away, that’s maybe 2 months of recovery from that beating. If people are worried about his health now, he’s guaranteed brain damage after that.

Take some time off, come back at 154 against a soft touch, rebuild to a championship, he can probably still get a Crawford rematch at 154 later on.
