I didn't see the Galento-Ngannou thread, so I missed out on the opportunity to laugh at it. There have been other Galento threads that had me laughing though...Ali-Galento being at the top of the list. That would have been Boxing's equivalent of a Globetrotters game.

Anyway, Ngannou-AJ is no kind of indicator of how Ngannou-Galento might have played out. Big difference between a 6'6", chiseled 252 pound Joshua, and the 5'9", way overweight Galento. AJ dropping counter right hands over the jab from long range is different than Galento diving in with a lunging left, then falling into a clinch. AJ is far superior to Galento in the skills department, and has every possible physical advantage over Tony as well.

Galento was a tough, but limited guy with some power, and not much else the way I see it. The current crop of Heavyweights isn't the strongest, and I don't see Galento at his best being Top 20 these days. Not sure I'd make him much of a favorite over Ngannou, who's not very good.

Won't even try to predict an exact result for Ngannou-Galento, but I don't see their styles meshing very well. Probably just Tony diving into a clinch over and over, sloppy infighting, and an eventual decison win for somebody. I absolutely do NOT see Galento steamrolling Francis the way AJ did though.

Galento by KO. If he can land on Louis, he can land on Frances

Ok so how did those other 25 boxers beat him then? Were they all more defensively capable than Louis? Surely if he could land on Louis he could've landed on Al Gainer.

Al Gainer probably beats Ngannou as well.

I'm not going to laugh at the idea of Galento beating Ngannou. But I will still pick Ngannou.

I see him becoming a top contender after the tough era had kinda subsided a bit. And he did lose quite a bit. Got stopped 5 times other than Louis. And the Lou Nova win(his biggest win) has as big an asterisk as a win could possibly have with the eye poking.

Yes he got the knockdown against Louis. But at the end of the day it was all over by round 4. Whatever high level he achieved in that fight he did not maintain for very long.

2 Ton Tony, who was used to analyzing a fighter in the ring to see their weaknesses instead of relying on the film and tape, would instantly recognize that Ngannou constantly brings his left hand back low after the pawning jab crap, times it, and KOs the mma guy with a big looping right hand in round one.

Yeah, the skill level back in Galento's era was off the charts. I recently watched two of the top Heavyweights from that era, Galento vs. Max Baer, and I was mesmerized by the astonishing footwork, the smooth combination punching, and the slick defensive maneuvers by both men. It was poetry in motion. If Ngannou had stepped into that ring with Galento on July 2, 1940 (back when men were men), he would have been taken out in a matter of nanoseconds.

Max Baer has a realistic chance of beating AJ, let alone Ngannou.
