All this talk of fighters in the 80s, 90s and 00s avoiding Euro fighters or not crossing the Atlantic Ocean to fight some obscure fighter in a corner of the planet that Americans didn't give a **** about.

Until the rise of Naseem Hamed boxing across the Atlantic was mainly ruled by Americans and Euro fighters had to come over to make there names known. Prince Naseem had mega hype way before he came over and fought his first U.S. bout in Madison Square Garden.

There has never been another Euro fighter with the same mega s****om before him or after him. He did'nt depend on an American superstar to make him a household name, he did it himself. Too bad fighters today need to beg U.S. fighters to make them money.:verysad

american fights take place on sunday mornings about 4 to 5 am start time the norm for a european audience , which means that virtually only americans watch live american boxing outside the few diehard boxing fans like you get on here.

He was pretty good at boxing actually. Not too many featherweights who could handle prime Barrera.

Was Hamed that embarrassed by the Barrera loss? It was just a loss. But also one of the greatest tooljobs in the history of boxing.

Barrera made him look like such a lower class of a fighter.

Did Hamed really quit because he knew that he was nowhere near Barrera's level?

He knew that if he couldn't beat mab, all there were left was beatdowns. Think about him facing morales or jmm back then, pac or fmj.

Now that Mayweather has retired, which American fighters are making more money than their top Euro counterparts?

Let's also remember Ricky Hatton made basically as much as Mayweather and Pac did in the fights with them.

That's because every Englishman in the Britain was in the pub during Hatton fights. They loved Hatton.

I never understood why Froch didn't receive the same appreciation and support that Hatton did. They were both good for TV.

hamed only came unstuck at atg level, theres no shame in that, others did like Minter, Bruno and Hatton, good but flawed guys like joe calzaghe and david haye would have failed too if they'd dared to try the same or had an opponent to do so against.

He was categorically world class, elite, and a respectable non-backdoor entry in HoF. people should be ashamed to call him anything less.

He is not however an ATG, categorically that level was beyond him.

This is an excellent post. Nobody else gets so much flak for being unable to handle ATG quality fighters besides Hamed.

He was thoroughly out of his league against Barrera. The same 99.99% of other boxers too.

    No shame in that.
