And the first elite fighter he faces will completely take him apart and burst that bubble. No doubt. This is eerily reminiscent of Naseem Hamed. A short, dwarf power puncher in the lower weights blasting everybody out. That is until he finds himself in the ring with a technically skilled fighter in his prime. Ryan Garcia isn't even a world champ. Don't get me wrong, Tank is a decent fighter, but he's not anywhere close to elite or p4p. There is A LOT of hype for a guy who is being very carefully matched.
He's beatable but that's not important in boxing anymore What's important is: is he marketable and can he generate BIG revenue? I don't think he can. Davis is a boxer for purists not casual scum and there aren't really any fights out there which garner attention which is why Garcia was a saving grace.
Yes the LGBTQ+ community. This content is protected and also a few real boxing fans because clearly he is the goods.
Davis is a very good fighter but he is beatable. I just don't think he's willing to face any real risks in the ring and his fans aren't interested in calling him out for it.
Even if there is a bubble, and even if does burst—it will be a thousand times more satisfying because fights were being made before it did. April was weird as in it made me forget the current state of boxing. Two fantastic, completely voluntary bouts that make the actual struggle for the belts feel like colossal events. It kind of accentuates how alphabet champions, and unnecessary weight divisions to a degree, kill the sport. One ladder, one champion, one top contender. That's how winners are born—in pressure and heat.
So who is around Tank's weight that has the 'elite' skills to beat him? He is beatable, that's true. For example, any halfway decent 135-147 lb fighter from the past when boxing was great would beat him. But who is there nowadays that has shown such great skill & ability?
I think quite a few can outpoint him. I have seen several go down on punches that he didn't even have full force behind them though. One decent shot and its only a matter of time. I think Stevenson and Haney could pull it off. Loma a few years ago.
Agreed, there are some around that I think could beat him too, but they sure don't look elite to me and could just as well get KO'd as you said.
