Fedor's speed was very slow I thought. His handspeed is incredible, or was, but vs Silva whos average on the handspeed departement, he wasnt that faster....

AND the 55lbs advantage of Silva... Don't tell me that he already beat bigger man... YES, but they weren't as skillfull as Silva. Fedor is on the decline + he was facing a very skillfull guy with an advantage of 55lbs.. It's ENORMOUS.

People are saying, look at anderson silva, hes 35 so fedor isnt that old....
People ages differently, look Big Nog, he is younger that Anderson, but he is like 96 years old in the ring..
Fedor's style don't age well. + Antonio Silva would always had given fedor a hard time because of his 55 lbs advantage and of his skill set. But a prime Fedor, in my opinion, would KO big foot standing, but may very well get beat on the ground because his face always mark so easy hence a doctor stoppage

Fighters don't age in MMA, they only get exposed.

I think you're way over analysing this. Fedor got stopped because of an injury. He didnt quit. He didnt give up. He showed no obvious signs of being hurt. He lost because he had literally a giant sat on top of him raining canned hams down on his fragile skin that has always marked up bad. Its understandable that at 34 years of age and a decade long career at the very top he will begin to slow down. He's only human after all...

totally agree with everything you said,,,other than your percpective "seems" to be coming from a NEW POINT where i think that everything you said was already on the wall over the last few years. Fedor has not looked as good as he did when he was in pride. He had more of a HUNGRY EDGE to him in pride. Personally i think he fought at a much faster OVERALL pace in Pride and used MORE overall ENERGY. Older guys get better at CONSERVING energy in the ring however you still need to BURN it and BURN lots of it to win and GOD i am not saying Fedor wasnt in SHAPE, lol, i am merely pointing out that a think a little bit of his EDGE has eroded over the last years in that department. I think that this little bit of decline in him effected him in numerous ways.

I think ONE of Fedors best MENTAL STRENGTHs in the begining was that he didnt FEAR loosing. I think when he was YOUNGER he was EXTREMELY hungry and wanted to jump in with the best because of this HUNGER. I think when he jumped in with the best and came out so CLEARLY on top for a couple of years he lost a bit of that HUNGRY EDGE and i think thats why he didnt look or fight as well after Pride. Yes he fought great after Pride. However it appeared to me that after Pride he won alot of his subsequent fights using his EXPERIENCE and great TIMING to win RATHER then that pumped up controlled hunger. Just my thoughts i could be wrong. Personally i dont think Fedor will really comeback to the top again. Yes he could in a single fight still beat anyone on any given day. However i dont think he has it in him to beat top guys one after another as he used to do better than any other heavy in history.

Now onto Silva. First time i saw him fight i thought he was a potential future world champ. I lost track of him after that and i think he lost a fight or so since then however the guy is a NITEMARE of a MATCH UP. I didnt see the fight last nite so i cant comment on it yet. However i remember thinking when i heard Fedor was going to fight Silva, "Silva is a NITEMARE matchup for Fedor", well especially at this stage of his career and coming off a loss. Whereas every single FIGHT Fedor took before Werdum i always remember thinking, "hmmm that seems like a pretty good match up for Fedor, almost a tad cheap but only because Fedor is so good".

Anyways will be interesting to see how Silva develops in his next few fights as its so rare to have a GIANT that has so much technique and skill on the ground in the ways that Silva can bring it. Brock for instance is great on the ground when he is in a power position and has great technique getting into those power positions however if he isnt in one of those power positions Brock isnt that great on the ground. Silva is very well rounded on the ground in good and bad positions. Think he has been up to this point one of the most UNDER-RATED heavys out there. Well NOT anymore lol.

Maybe Silva will get exposed by a super quick striker thats also big etc as he isnt the fastest dude.

Regardless will be fun to watch what happens.

Hats of to Fedor as we now know that he is back to being just HUMAN for real

Hey it happens to the best of us

how is he over analysing this ? You just said yourself its understandable that at 34 years of age and a decade long career he will begin to slow down as he's only human after all? Wasnt that the POINT of this GUYs THREAD ?

One was Semmy Schilt...Taller , way better striker (than both fedor & antonio)...and knows how to sub... But not a good wrestler...and antonio is of course more comfortable on the ground too. (Plus he has a bjj black belt)...

Fedor almost had a vintage come back near the end of the 2nd round (with the heel hook..)...but his eye was way too dammaged)...lLast time his face was bruised like this was in 2005 against Mirko. Only Antonio did even more dammage.
