There is a p4p top-tier boxer, in his prime, that nobody brings up anymore.

Yeah...and Mikey speaks English just fine, doesn't he? I mean, he was born here and live in CA his entire life. No reason he couldn't have been following the same path as Ward and doing commentary with some frequency while his legal troubles are ongoing.

I think Crawford would be too much for Mikey. Don't think he could take his power.

More frustratingly stupid and senseless reason for an elite to be sidelined and not get a chance to accurately define their standing in their era: Pirog's recurrent back injuries or Garcia's staredown with Bob?

Interesting. Did you observe him being hurt, ever?

Sure, he would have had a chance but not a big one. The leap in class and weight (he only like two fights at Jr Lightweight), gave me the same impression as the likes of Gamboa when they was calling out Pacquiao, that they are looking for the big money, rather than a logical career step and don't truly believe they can win, and if he did, why was he competing with Jr Lightweights and Featherweights anyway, when there is bigger money at Jr Welter and Welter.

Andre Ward's ignorance that he doesn't have a fanbase and can't make have every term in a contract that benefits him.

I'm not entirely convinced that Gamboa for all his flaws wouldn't have been a legitimate risk for Pacquiao, just based on styles. Of course, the smart money would definitely have been on Pac chinning him. Not so much of that concern with MAG, who never got decked or made to dance like Yuriorkis.

As for campaigning at feather and super feather, well, he was starting his ascent in weight right around when his career was derailed. He went straight from being featherweight champion to debuting at SFW in a title bout and establishing himself in the eyes of many as the man (without having even cleaned out all the biggest names, just based on the strength of his performances against solid guys in Martinez & Burgos) and the next logical step would have been to continue his progress at 135lb for a couple of fights and then 140. I'm not sure he remains effective all the way up at 147lb, although you're right, that is the most cash-laden division in his vicinity, so it may have proven tempting if he managed to stay on a successful track at LW and LWW and paydays began to dry up.

I think he was hurt by Bob Arum's lack of respect.

But no, in all seriousness, no. I don't recall seeing him hurt. But also don't recall seeing him i. There with a dealer like Crawford either. That statement is more about Crawford than it is about Garcia. Crawford skill, power and size pose problems for Garcia. And I think Garcia is awesome.

    Gotta be Garcia and Bob.

Pirog was exiled back to Russia as it was thanks to breaking HBO's unwritten rule of the "opponent" showing up the house fighter; the back injury was just a case of rotten ironic luck as it happened just as there was a regime change that would've allowed him a fair crack at a U.S. campaign.

Mikey's case is much more self inflicted, and that makes it more frustrating to me.

Mickeys a great talent it's too bad he's had to lose time off his prime not fighting because of some legal contract bs, like 2 years ago he had some very good wins and seemed on the fast track to becoming a name in the sport now he's almost totally forgotten ...I had forgot about him till your post lot of great match ups for him, is there a end to his legal troubles in sight? I hope he can fight next year and get his momentum back.

Definitely MG. Here you have an established top shelf operator who gives himself a timeout in the midst of his prime, with many potential juicy matchups on the horizon, although in fairness, at the time, not as many.

Boxing has so many divas these days, this little one gets lost in the shuffle.

Why should we care about a fighter who doesn't care about his own career?

As far as I'm concerned, he should stay retired.

    Yeah, once, in round two.
