After viewing the replay of Cotto Margarito Saturday....I've changed my opinion of the rematch.

Cotto said himself before the fight that he would capitalize on his mistakes because he is a bit goofy ( "thorpe" ) in the ring.

What I saw when Cotto took a knee was...." I underestimated you...this was your night, I will come back for my belt"

Cotto trained hard yet still underestimated him....thats why he was seen frequently at the Doble six drinking Heneikens.

He did everything he could that night and did it repeatedly ( except clinch-sorry Hopkins ).
What took Cotto down wasn't Margarito's power....it was exhaustion.

Based on my conversation yesterday...there will be a rematch after his
next immediate fight this year. ( most likely Clottey ).

Keep the belt shiny Margarito....you won't have it long!!!

Well its not impossible that next time he'll last the extra 2 rounds and win.

He has a shot but if Margarito goes to the body early he will get knocked out again. I cant wait for the rematch.

Cotto was getting pwned that is why he took a knee. Margarito busted him up in three places.

Was he exhausted in the 7th round too? Cause he damn sure looked like he almost went down and out there as well.

Cotto is a consummate pro. I don't think he'd underestimate Margarito, especially a fight of this magnitude. Cotto fought a marvelous fight but the pressure and punishment from the TJ Tornado was simply too much for him to withstand. I don't think he could improve upon this performance and would likely be stopped even sooner in a rematch. :smoke:smoke

Exhaustion!? Don't you think Margarito's well executioned body attack had anything to do with that?

Where do you get that he was beaten mentally???

    Are you a headshrink?
Do you have some credentials in that field to make that kind of dumb statement?

    Firstly.....I like that picture.

Margo's body shots weren't clean body blows...a few only.
They were deflected by Cottos forearms and elbows along with
some of Benitez's famous body twist.

The odds would worsen for Cotto in the rematch. He took a severe beating there at the end, so we don't even know if he'll ever be peak again. Not only that, he now knows that Margarito can stop him, and that he probably can't stop Margarito.

I just don't see Cotto fighting at that pace for 12 rounds. He could win, but I wouldn't bet on it.
