There is absolutely no way that Joe Louis would beat Ali

The fact is, the fighters that Joe Louis fought had little to no movement, and were often game fighters which for a fighter like Louis, a HUGE puncher in his time, would be destoryed and often were if they attempted to sit in and slug it out.

While Joe Louis was a very hard puncher, he just doesn't have the footspeed and versatility to catch up to Ali. He may have his moments where he lands big punch, but you'll see Ali either tie him up or dance around the ring and avoid danger.

In fact if you broke it down from a generational standpoint, and given that Joe Louis himself wasn't a great mover, how Louis's power is often what dominated his opponents, and it would be murder to stand in front of him, Louis's was a patient, counterpunching slugger.

He just had the benefit of not having to face stronger, bigger, come foward opponents, (and by size I mean people that could use their size effectively, IE take punches and PUNCH hard themselves, nor having to face any opponents that had half the footwork of Ali.

The reason why fighters like Joe Frazier or Mike Tyson did and would pose problems to Ali is because they used headmovement, foward momentum, pressure, and most importantly, VOLUME, usually set up by a jab, to suffocate Ali and keep him from working effectively.

Louis did not share these attributes and would be beaten to the punch all night. In my opinion, Ali would dance around Joe Louis until the late rounds when Ali starts letting his hands go, and it's likely that at least today the ref would stop the fight because of the amount of punishment that Joe Louis was taking.

And yes, you could say that Joe Louis would have a puncher's chance, but that's unlikely against a fighter like Ali who had one hell of a chin, and was simply too smart to stand there like a stiff and get beat down.

Joe Louis's competition is what made Joe Louis, Joe Louis.

Ali is the greatest fighter of all time because of his adaptablity, self belief, speed, reflexes, but most importantly, his intellect.

Not to mention, he could take a punch and had a hell of a lot of heart.

Honestly, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if a fight with Joe Louis wouldn't even be competitive, especially given what Ali did to Sonny Liston, who was a bigger, stronger, albeit a bit slower, but with a longer reach than Louis.

I cannot believe how many people want to believe the whole Ali was God and was the greatest ever HW myth.

The fact is Ali has lost alot of fights that do not appear on the L column, due to the generous refereeing decisions he has enjoyed throughout his career, against fighters not even in Loius's league, this needs to finally come into the serious boxing writers opinion on Ali's career!

Here's the truth though. Ali didn't recieve gifts against prime Foreman, Liston, Frazier or Patterson. All HOFers. The man has the best, no argument accepted, resume of any other Heavyweight in the history of the sport. He lost 3 years of his prime also. He was also notorious for not training properly or taking fights serious. But the it is undeniable, a "prime" Ali, being properly focused and conditioned and motivated can beat any other heavyweight ever to live :good
