There is no explanation for this statistic other than Bowe had a bad chin and Futch knew it

His mustache was glorious. But Michael Spinks holds the ATG boxing mustache IMO

You could say the same thing for Lewis. We'd think he was iron jawed if he never fought Rahman and McCall

I'd say he slightly edges Holmes in punching power. Mainly because of the counter right he dropped Douglas with and I know Douglas could've beaten the count, but it was the fact that he put a super heavy on the canvas like that early and with a single shot

It was a different time In the 1890s. He said he would not defend the title against an Etheopian, not refuse to fight one. The reason Bowe ducked Lewis was not at all similar to Jefferies drawing the color line which had more to do with how society was at that time.

Dempsey and Wills was a different thing for a variety of reasons. One being the social climate of the times which had no relevance at all to Bowe and Lewis and then I believe with Dempsey and Wills there were some financial things as well. But Dempsey didn't just surrender the title rather than fight Wills. I think thats the key difference here.

Lewis turned down two offers from Newman to fight Bowe.

Newman brought Dino Duva to court for reneging on a deal to make Bowe vs Tommy Morison.

Tyson is on video saying he didn't want to fight Bowe. Bowe called out Foreman II who Mike Tyson wanted no part of.

Bowe was an avoided fighter, he didn't avoid anybody. His career its just the way things played out naturally.

Olympic Fight too, as a side note:
"Bowe won the silver medal in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, losing a controversial match in the finals to future world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis. Bowe had a dominant first round, landing 33 of 94 punches thrown (34%) while Lewis landed 14 of 67 (21%). In the first round the referee from East Germany gave Bowe two cautions for headbutts and deducted a point for a third headbutt, although replay clearly showed there was no headbutt. Commentator Ferdie Pacheco disagreed with the deduction, saying they did not hit heads. In the second round, Lewis landed several hard punches. The referee gave Bowe two standing eight counts and waved the fight off after the second one, even though Bowe seemed able to continue. Pacheco disagreed with the stoppage, calling it "very strange," but Marv Albert said Bowe took "a pounding." "

Curious when those two times were that Bowe was hit with "similar" right hands ?

I dont think Bowe had so much of a bad chin its just that he was so easy to hit and too often was in less than stella condition

Holyfield showed his power the most with counterpunches. When he agressive went after people he didn't look that powerful because it took him a million punches to floor his opponents.
    Example: Czyz, Holmes, Bowe 1
But when he was attacked and he countered his timing made his punches extra effective
    Example: Tyson, Mercer, Moorer

But in terms of pure force holyfield wasn't anything above average in power until he gained that extra muscle in 1993 and stopped bouncing around and planted his feet more. The side effect was lower punch output.
However at that point Holyfield was hurting Bowe with single punches (without accumulation) in the rematch and the rubber match.

I'm not questioning his heart or ability to survive. I'm questioning his ability to take a big shot without being unaffected.

Golota wobbled and dropped him early in both fights.

    Biggs wobbled him early.

Holyfield Had him in more trouble with a single punch than just about any other relevant HW he fought.

Bowe did very well to survive vs Golota and holyfield was Just too tired to finish him for whatever reason.

But my point is none of these guys is Lennox Lewis or Wlad or foreman or Tyson and if those guys could do that to him early then there is a really good chance that those truly elite Punchers might just ice him cold and stop him early like they did with other guys, even with guys who had good chins

Bowe and Roy were victims of anti-American corruption in the 88 Olympics. At the time of the bogus stoppage the fight was a draw. Not sure what point your trying to make tbh.
Bowe would have beat Lennie silly in 1992.

Lennox , Wlad , Foreman and Tyson are capable of iceing every HW in history with the right punch.

Whats your point , that a HW can be knocked out by another HW? K , duly noted. Thanks for the lesson.:smile:
