There is no such thing as a 'glass jaw' or a 'weak chin'

Ok, so then why didn't the jab that Cotto put down Gomez with do the same to Margarito?

But why can Margarito take flush shots time after time and stand up to it....

....but Khan can get floored by a cuffing shot by Gomez?

Nothing at all to do with upbringing, determination, courage or desire. If your legs give way on you, then there's nothing you can do.

Well, your answer seems to be: 'because he was lucky enough to be born with an iron jaw, and everything thing that happened in the subsequent 31 years of his life has absolutely no bearing on this issue'.

    Yes.

You're shocked that people get born with naturally good attributes such as punch resistance???

Are you shocked when people have natural punching power or speed too?

There's only an extent to which toughness comes into it. In some scenarios, you can't control being KO'd; and, in those cases, your physiological make-up determines whether you hit the floor drooling or stay on your feet. Some people have sensitive jaws and some don't.

What your saying isnt SO far out of touch but every chin has a different resistance & every fighter takes a certain level of pressure on the `jaw bone` depending on the actual human being.

I do agree however that ANY human can be KO`d if the punch lands in the exact position & a certain degree of luck is involved while fighting in most cases but at the end of the day... **** luck, keep in shape, work on your skills & you stand a better chance of keeping yourself good than most.

    :good

Do you rile people up just to see what you get, then agree with them all along knowing you made a ridiculous statement (yeah, I'm thinking of the Khan/Kotelnik, Lacy/Calzaghe comparison thread)?

    You shifty *******...

Glass Jaws exist and Khan is a perfect example of it.

There is certainly a correlation between the way you are getting hit and the knockdown. Still, i'm pretty sure there is less resistant people. Maybe not as much a term like glass jaw seems to say.

I disagree with the thread title. All other things being equal, physiologically, the ability to take the same punch in the same manor, varies greatly from fighter to fighter. The evidence is overwhelming as shown by the La Motta example. Another amazing point about La Motta, is that even as he has aged to his 80's, the guy was completely lucid in the last interview I heard a year or 2 ago. I would also attribute that mostly to his natural physiology.

Sure there are many other critical factors, but to deny that many guys are just born with a steel chin, great speed, and superior endurance, makes about as much sense as saying anyone with the proper training, diet, and psychology can win a gold medal in the decathalon.

Glass jaws are a myth, like the loch ness monster, all down to sensitive nerve endings in the chin.
