Some people dont realise that JC is shot now. I have watched him for years and his prime IMO was when he fought Reid, Mitchell and Brewer.

 

Joe Calzaghe is better than Hopkins then and now.

He is **** at chasing fights but still won.

Only RJJ and Toney beat Joe imo since he's been about

 

Jones was avoiding Joe back in the day. Jones would win a fight, be smug in his interview and then when Calzaghe's name was mentioned Jones would act like there was no reason to even dignify it with a comment. However, he would say things like "I don't like flying" (in regards to his willingness to go to the UK to fight Joe).

Jones avoided Joe.

Blame Hopkins for not having the courage to stick with the fight when it was originally being planned.

 

Your analysis was ridiculous. First of all, Hopkins was far better in his prime than he is now, at everything. He was a great counter-puncher as he is now, but he counter-punched in the middle of the ring, with combinations, and often led. He didn't resort to throwing one punch at an opening when fighting off the backfoot.

Calzaghe is **** at chasing? He's primarily the aggressor in his fights, known for his hand and footspeed allowing him to overwhelm opponents. Are you somehow implying that he's better off the backfoot?

I'd actually make Calzaghe/Toney about 55/45 in favor of Joe both at their best. He matches up better with Toney than he does with Hopkins.

 

Hopkins backed out their original fight...not Joe. Hopkins held like a ***** when they did fight...now we know why

Quit ignoring the obvious: Hopkins backed out of his chance when he was prime. That's his fault, not Joe's.

 

Hopkins is the reason the fight took place when he was 43, not Joe. Hokpins backed out of the fight years ago. Being younger does not mean he would do better. If he opened up more he would give Joe so many more opportunites.

 

Uhh... What about a prime Calzaghe? Hopkins is just as much in his prime as Calzaghe is in his. Hopkins has thrived at his age, and has not really lost his luster. Calzaghe on the other hand has shown more of a decline his in speed, reflexes, explosiveness, ect... IMO. Hopkins got better with age, because he became more crafty.

 

This **** is not my speciality, so I'd like to know a few things about this:

1) When was the fight offered?

2) What were the terms? Was Hopkins supposed to go and fight Joe in Wales or was Joe going to come to America to fight Hopkins?

 

He is nowhere NEAR what he once was, are you ****ing kidding me? The oldder, slower, pot-shot and clinch Hopkins is better than the high workrate, combination throwing, offensive/defensive master of the late 90's?

The fact that Hopkins has done so well in his aging bodes well for him and says a lot of his dedication, but it doesn't mean he got better with age just because he was more successful. He is nowhere near what he was around the Glen Johnson or even Trinidad fight.
