witter from the very earlist days never had a big following because 1 he comes from an asian town without a boxing tradition and 2 witter in his early days was not an entertainer but a saftey first boxer.

as to colour, biggest national boxing hero with the biggest following over the last 25 years was frank bruno who used to get 20 million tv viewers and always fought at packed out venues.

when benn fought eubank 17 million watched and 40,000 attended.
