For great British fighters like Michael Watson, Herol Graham, John Conteh, Kirklind Lang, Naseem Hamed, Chris Eubank and many more!
There is already a world Boxing of Fame and a honours system if a British fighter deserves it; there is no need for a British Boxing Hall of Fame IMO, eh Sir 'enry, and hopefully in due course; Sir Joe?
There should be a british one cos legends like michael watson, carl thompson and herol graham should be rememberd and many more
Sir joe was lucky he came along when benn, eubank, graham and watson were all out of the picture! he still says a finished eubank was his hardest fight, who tuck the fight on 12 days notice, a prime eubank, benn, watson and graham all would of beat joe! for me both hopkins and robin reid should have wins over him, but lets save this for another thread! and get back to the british hall of fame
If this ever happens I will personally burn my British passport outside Buckingham Palace. A Brit HofF is a good idea
Good idea, I like to think that Colin Hart could be the gatekeeper to maintain some standards and stop Sky and Warren filling with the Walsh Bros etc
As long as WBO title defences don't count - and WBU and Commonwealth for that matter. There would only be..... Lennox Lewis Ken Buchanan Nigel Benn From the recent past!
Agreedgood. I accept that most boxers are at the mercy of their promoter's plans/ schemes but if I was ever a pro boxer that would be one of my main aims. I'm astounded that fighters just don't all out for it and beg their promoters to allow them to win it outright. What a memento the Lonsdale belt would be on the mantlepiece:shock:.
Ive held one, and a European and Commonwealth title. The lonsdale belt is beautiful in an old fashioned kind of way.
The problem with trying to win one outright is that many promoters.... a. have two fighters in their stable at the same weight - reluctant to match them b. match their guys far too soft and have to go straight from Commonwealth to European c. TV don't place enough pressure on to force fights - as they do in the US and plenty more..... I would want to win one myself, but if I was someone like Tyson Fury I honestly wouldn't bother, and would focus on getting decent fights in Germany or the States. It is a great prize, but I would put career development as a higher priority. If there is sufficient opposition in order to win one and progress suitably, ala Brook, Moore previously, then do it. If not, Fury, Cleverly etc, look elsewhere.
All valid problems these days BB, thats why I put 'used to'. If you look through the list of Londale belt owners, its a "who's who" of British boxing until you get to the 80's when things started changing.
