Yeah, there certainly should. Noone disagrees.

And the RING title now means significantly less with their new "RING title rules" they implemented right before the Khan/Garcia fight so that it could allow for a champ at 140, despite Khan being ranked #2 and Garcia was, what, #4 I believe...

Yeah i was going to mention the Ring belt. I think the boxing public would see a lot more exciting fights with just 1 world title belt. So everyone can fight anyone and work their way up without gift mandatories.

So an IBF guy can't only just fight another IBF guy. He has to fight them all as their would be only 1 boxing org. But big moneys involved and it means more than legacy. More belts is just a way for the boxing orgs to make more cash and make bigger stars. So many hypejobs are made through the paper titles and meaningless belts. And then television networks along with the promoters and promotional companies can make better cards as there's more belts on the line.

So they can make pointless unifications. If you win a fight you move up in line. Say Kosta Tszyu is 5th and Vince Phillips is 6th they have to fight eachother to fight the 3th and 4th place winner. Then winner of that should then fight the winner of 1th and 2th. It doesn't work that way but it would bring more excitement to the sport.

Instead of the world champ fighting the guy next in line, he can then make an excuse and pick an easier opponent with all these diff orgs and rules for each of the titlists.

The ibo in theory is far more credible than the other alphabet organizations. As they use a computer ranking system.

it would be great. The pressure on the the top guy who is champion would be enormous, but he would earn it all. The organizations will never backed down for another one, and the ring belt will not take the place totally of other belts. A guy will still want to be WBA or WBO champion, and then you do not have a unified belt.

Why is it when the ring belt is on the line, it rarely gets mentioned by the announcer or on websites after?

Well, this thread has only been done a million times...what's one more?

Because The Ring belt isn't an "official" championship like the Alphabet Soup titles. It's just a belt given out by The Ring magazine to the winner of the fight between their recognised ranked 1 and 2. It's just held so highly by most boxing fans because they usually agree with top Ring ranked people and are glad to see them fight, so there's no cherrypicking.

I like boxing just the way it is. Why fix what is not broken? I think all the belts make the sport more interesting.

and then guys wouldn't have belts. Just having one championship per division isn't going to force guys to fight others. Canelo without the WBC strap is still a good looking, young, talented, and exciting redheaded Mexican. He's still going to draw crowds and make good money.

They don't even follow their own rankings.
