Lewis is Uk born, that's where it ended, his affiliation with us was far less when Maloney left..Checkout the interview after Rachman 2, he was forced by the interviewer to mention UK fight fans, after bigging up "Blacks, south Africa, Winnie Mandela and Canada"....I was sitting with 20 odd blokes that were cheering him after he sparked The Rock, minutes later pure silence after the **** that come out his mouth " oh yeah, big up the UK fans" pmsl, not even an after thought, he had to be reminded

I'll repost what Bomber quoted, Lewis' own words and take him on face value:

“I have always been English, ever since I emigrated from England and since the kids in Canada beat me up at the age of 12 for having an East London ****ney accent. I thank them for the ****ney taunts because the beatings turned me on to boxing. But on a serious note, Canada has been kind to me.”

Seems pretty clear to me, balanced and respectful of both nation's part in his career. With all due respect to your opinion of Lennox's nationality, I'm gonna place a little more emphasis on his own....

I'll be honest, hes another George Foreman, hes said different things over the years about it, defo contradicts himself..I think half the stories of boxers getting bullied is shite too, nearly everyone of them couldn't leave the house with out getting a dig as a kid !

How did something this epic turn in to a conversation about nationalities

 

Lewis has dual citizenship so when he calls Johnson his countrymen he is simply confirming his Canadian citizenship, he doesn't see himself as only English or Canadian one doesn't exclude the other to him and as someone who is Chinese/English I too see myself as 2 not 1 nationalities and I'm sure many more people in the same situation see it that way too.

Lewis has made it quite clear he's both English, Canadian and even Jamaican, probably African too if we go deeper. He identifies with a lot of nationalities as he's from a multicultural background. You may disagree with how he views himself but well you opinion is pretty much meaningless to him and countless others who have similar backgrounds.

 

Haters grasping at straws. Lewis' career speaks for itself, so haters don't have much to go onto tear him down so always go to the nationality card, like it really means anything. It's always his nationality or his 2 losses, like everyone else went undefeated, or the Vitali fight. You can't trash his resume, can't trash his legacy, where he ranks, his H2H ability and so it's always petty stuff like nationality, small minds, small games and all.

 

I think that is why he was never really accepted in general in the UK, we always like a heavyweight more than anything. Problem was he never stamped his colours to the mast, your post is correct and it kinda proves what i'm saying too in a way. You cant fight for all them countries and have a solid true fan base in any. Bruno Joshua Cooper had much more love from us for that reason imo, sub consciously not many viewed him as ours in comparison, they would turn out for him but the love wasn't there so to speak. Nothing against his skills for me, I have him no 1 h2h ever at best and focused, but I seen enough of his personality to not kid myself his heart was here

 

I'm not a hater. No 1 h2h ever in my book, ropey personality though, never dropped his guard and let you in as a fan

 

He's also recently been advertising a first-ever "An Evening With" event. A cynic could be forgiven for thinking Lennox is buttressing the retirement fund more than anything.
