i hate the way the entire focus for durans career is on No Mas (which he didnt even say "im not fighting with this clown anymore" although if the mentrioned director puts mathew mcconaughey in his movies, this could be a load of shite they had better got a top writer on board. Will it be in spanish? knowing the ******s that inhabit this planet it would probaly suffer because people seem adverse to eh, reading.
I'd have liked to see them get up to at least the Barkley fight. That would be a good place to end a film on Duran.
The film "will revolve around the famous No Mas fight" GTFO with that ****! Can we have a Monzon film next please Hollywood?
thing is his boxing life was so long and interesting you its impossible to get a movie to cover it all properly. it would have to be Roberto Duran the early years (culminating in leonard 1) and duran the latter years - begin with the fight in new orleans and end with the greatest 4 punch combo in boxing history - the 11th kd of iran barkley
I nearly made the point that the time scale might be too long for a film but they managed it in Raging Bull. If time was an issue you could probably pare it down to only really covering Ken B, Leonard and Barkley fights in a any great detail with mentions for DeJesus (lightweight nemeisis), Hearns (a low point), Hagler (brave challenge) and probably the comeback against Moore.
Did I tell you guys I met Pat Lawlor over the summer. We just happened to be drinking in the bar he works at now in San Fran, we were talking about boxing and the guys there said "Oh, you know that guy over there fought Duran twice". We were floored. Really nice guy, was chatting with me and my mates for ages, took loads of pictures with us. Told us loads of great stories like meeting one of his ex-wife while down to rematch Duran and then having the reception in Duran's mansion. And about a little kid coming up to get his autograph before, and then he found out years later that kid was Chico Corrales.
There was more to the Corrales story but I'm not sure of all the details now (there was drink involved). Corrales' mother I think came back to see him after Chico was killed and told him that it was after meeting Pat that he really got into boxing. He had a poem about it. He got into boxing himself when his best friend was killed when he was a teenager. He recited the poem he has about fighting for his friends memory, it was deadly, it would raise hairs on the back of your neck hearing him say it. It was pretty cool, he's a cool guy.
