The fight was a prime example of a great fighter beating a good fighter. It's levels to this sh$t. Discuss.
Pacquiao isn't really "great" anymore. This was a once great but kinda shot but still overall "very good" fighter beating a "merely good (for world level)" fighter.
Manny is shot. Same performance as the last couple of years. Just not the same machine h used to be. He's still a good fighter though.
If Manny was fighting at 135 against that weight division's equivalent to Vargas the he'd be getting those guys outta there in highlight reel fashion.
Manny doesn't quite have the speed and reflexes he used to. But he impressed me with his experience tonight. He picked his spots and counterpunched well. And he knew when to up the intensity to keep Vargas from getting back in the fight from the 8th round.
Time robs us all and yes, Pac is not the Pac of old but he showed flashes of his greatness and I dare say it was that greatness that saw him through.
The division isn't weak. Vargas would get absolutely bodied by Spence. Thurman, Porter, Broner(I know he's 140), would all UD him.
I won't play Vargas cheap, he is a very good fighter and I would love to see him cross over and fight the likes of Garcia, Thurman and Porter. I think Spence would be a little too much for him but he can hang and possibly win against the others. I don't think that Bradley can handle him again.
Could you see any of these guys beat Pac of '09, and even then he's already fought and won more meaningful fights then the guys you listed, combined. Those guys have potential, but it doesn't mean they are great just yet. Hell they can barely get up the courage to fight each other lol.
Yeah, Roberto Duran had 18 first round knockouts at lightweight. At super middleweight the KOs came few and far between. Can you imagine what Pac would do to Jorge Linares?
