I like Mark for his honesty. Few years ago he said he never scored above 85 in any IQ test he took.
I thought that was too low , but he confirmed it a few times and tbf most if his posts are OK.

    Hit his ceiling
    Found his level

    Take your pick

Some guys look awesome against guys a level below them but look flat when they have to step up. It happens in every sport.

Most athletes think they are good until they have to step up and show the world under the spotlight at the highest level. Then they find their true level.

    1. Dorticos stood right in front of him all night whereas southpaw movers Lebedev, Usyk and Wallin used their legs

    2. Dorticos's best win was a 115-113 over Masternak and he was nearly shut out by Briedis. How good was he?

The heavyweight division in boxing is arguably a different sport to cruiserweight boxing and below, it’s time fans and contenders started to realise that.

I don't take what anyone says as gospel but presumably they've either been in the gym with Gassiev (in Arreola and Afolabi's case experiencing Gassiev's power directly) or they've observed it (B. Nelson, S. Jones) or they've been "reliably informed" by those who've experienced it or seen it.

It's entirely conceivable that Gassiev is a very big puncher but wasn't effective against Wallin because Wallin was able to stay out of the way, block many of the shots and he's durable. If Gassiev had fought someone who comes forward and is easy to hit like Breazeale or Joyce then we'd have a better idea. Nearly everyone seems or seemed to believe that Gassiev had a clear advantage in power over Briedis and Briedis sparked Charr with one shot, which neither Vitali or Povetkin came close to doing. Hopefully Gassiev doesn't retire and is able to get some interesting fights.

Nothing has changed about Gassiev. He’s still a very strong and powerful fighter, but unfortunately he’s never been the most motivated guy. In 5 years despite still being relatively young he hasn’t improved at all.

He was able to become a champion at cruiserweight by putting on lazy performances, but it just isn’t going to cut it at heavyweight.

Honestly I'm not a fan of Fury at all but I can't fathom how people thought Wallin vs Fury was close. It was clear as day an 8-4, 9-3, win for Fury.

The only excitement in the fight was whether or not Fury would be stopped on cuts and it was a bad one to be fair, but after a bit of shaky start Fury mostly had it all his own way in the 2nd half of the fight and won clearly for me.

Who has hurt Wallin to the head or dropped him as a pro Jim? Perhaps he has a great chin. And Wallin was very wary of Gassiev throughout the fight (even to the point where a few rounds were close, which he could barely afford as the B-side), he wasn't cautious for no reason.

I wrote a post on Gassiev being very overrated but it's not because he lacks punching power. I seriously doubt it but maybe you're right and Gassiev has average or below average power at heavyweight, hopefully he doesn't retire so we can find out.
