I didn't know 5'10 was small for 160.....I do know his handlers said he'd fight ANYBODY from 154 to 168 and they have yet to back up the last part.

 

Golovkin versus Sergio needs to happen before any moving up. If he becomes the middleweight champion soon enough, guys like Cotto or Canelo could also become options. I'd also definitely want to see GGG against Froch, Chavez Jr, or Ward if he doesn't move up.

 

He is a middleweight that could fight at JMW, but he is over qualified at those weights. There is no question in my mind that he could clear out 154 & 160 if those guys would face him.

I think he has to go to 168 for us to see his limits. There should be some very competitive fighting at that weight.

 

Difficult for certain fighters to get a fight due to the fear factor. Ward only fought Froch and Kessler because he was locked in to the super 6 and then contrived to get himself a series of home draws despite not being a huge draw at the beginning. I think ward would win but prob am more confident in him getting the W than he is. After all he was reluctant to fight Bute...

 

GGG is a very protected fighter. Even Tomato can Stevens will give him problems. GGG is to easy to hit and his skin is to thin for that.

 

Golovkin's optimal weight is 160 and there isn't a big fight for him at 168 yet. I'm not sure why anyone would advise him to move up in weight.

 

Exactly. But then again Sanchez said camp would just start sooner if he had to make 154 - "I would have to start to drop him early" is what he said... his handlers can kick and scream all they want re: anybody from 154 to 168, K2 doesn't really put boxing cards together in the US by themselves so they need to receive offers from the big fish. Not like Cotto called them out... would be great if he could secure the winner of a potential Cotto-Martinez (160) matchup through HBO. They fight around May, GGG fights the winner in the Fall.

The Ward fight will be big late 2014, early 2015 if -and only if- Ward doesn't move up to LHW after Rodriguez.

How does he have unfinished business at 154? He's never even fought in that division.

 

The guy weighed in at 170 for his last fight and you think he walks around two pounds lighter than that?:huh

I would rather he unify at 160 first. 160 is finally developing some depth and 168 has nobody left but Froch and Ward. GGG has at least three more fights at 160 before I want to see him go anywhere else.
