I want to say this i am a khan fan and i feel theres no way on earth he will ever change the method by which he fights. Put it this way hes had 8 or 9 camps with roach. he spars on a regular basis in the wildcard within that time they were unable to fix certain issues such as upper body movement, ïnside fighting etc. i doubt now all of a sudden after a loss theyll be able to rectify it. i think khan lacks the tools to change his game up. he needs to be carefully matched and fight guys who dont match him in terms of frame IMHO. I wish him the best of luck any thoughts of fighting mayweather need to be shelved
I agree to an extent. A boxers style and temperament go hand in hand and you can't completely change it. Khan has long reach with fast hands, his style of stick and move is perfect for him. He just needs to learn how to effectively get him self out tangles. But some bad habits can be worked on. Holyfield always came in with his head and got away with it. Remember it angered Tyson so much so that he bit his ear. Other point is I don't blame entirely on Khan. Roach has done nothing to advance his in fighting ability. Holding the guard up absorbing shots is something Manny does so thats something Khan learned from Freddie. Khan also probably pushes and holds down the head all the time in sparring and that hasn't been corrected either. So its partly both. Lastly, Khan himself is the reason. He seems too concerned about the audience when things aren't going his way he looses focus, and unwilling to accept that he needs improvement. Boxing fans for fickle. Khan defended his titles 4 times and unified two belts. Lost a close fight in a challengers backyard that could have gone either way and people are calling Khan a fraud, its a shame.
Can is too stop, start and too jumpy. He can still improve for sure. There is this idea in boxing that fighters are set in their ways and can't evolve. The opposite is true in MMA where they need to evolve in multiple areas. This mindset kills boxing and makes 85% of boxers **** and horrible to watch. If only guys like Tarver, Malignaggi etc were genuinely trying to be the best they could be. So many guys with talent but they don't really work at it. They train for 8 weeks, just fit enough to fight and collect their pay cheques. Fighters need to treat boxing like a martial art which they study. Credit to Khan him getting a better coach, better S&C and better sparring is helping to evolve. However there is ALOT more to do.
