They say that the best days of your life are when you are in your twentys, footballers and athleats have to sacrifice these years to stay on the ball and in prime condition,Ricky is the exception to these rules,he dose what any other man in the UK dose and has a dam good time while doing it.He gets loads of grief from people on this site for bloating between fights and i would agree with this if it was any normal fighter but a normal fighter he is not.He is by far one of the fittest boxers in the world and it would be a problem if he never made weight for a fight but he dose.Long term it may have a problem but he has stated he dose not want to fight on well in to his 30's,i think it takes more dedication to get yourself into shape when you bloat like that.Me im personally envious of a man who can and knows how to have fun in his prime yet still be at the top of his profession,he must be doing something right?Maybe it's just me but you cant blame someone for having fun,he deffo is not letting the fans down with his lifestyle in fact it's made him a working class hero.

Some peak early(Ronaldo, Vargas), others peak late(Hopkins), others again are just peaking throughout their careers(Lennox Lewis).

He has paid for his ballooning of weight between fights already, but not yet lost.

He will pay for it with a loss if he continues to abuse his body with alcohol and junk food. There is nothing cool about being so fat when he has time off from fighting.

It seems to work for him - yoyoing between fat and slim. Once he reaches fight night, he will be fit, and that is all that matters.

So what if he likes a drink and balloons up during fights i mean look at witter hes in the gym all year round and he still is not a better fighter than hatton. Did u see hatton in the last fight aganist castillo he looked ripped. Also going of the point abit people are saying that he should not fight at welterweight. The Only thing their he had only 5 weeks to prepare to fight collazo who was a big welterweight not a Zab Judah or a Shamba Mitchell blown up lightwelters like Mayweather fought (not having a Go). SO if he trained to be against full blown welterweight like Mosely or Cotto he will because thats what he has in front of him and his nutrisionists will make sure that he his ready.

i think long gaps between fights where he can abuse his body are really bad, but if he can fight approx 3 times a year, with only short breaks between training for fights he may get away with it more.

he's only got a couple of years left, and these could be his career defining years and so it's a small sacrifice to make to look after himself for the next 2 years.

He was ok last time, he didn't balloon to a size where he dwarfed Johnny Nelson. You can get very fit in 8-12 weeks, but even fitter (this applies to Hatton too) if you don't balloon at all.

If he fights often it is not an issue. However, he can be fitter if he does not balloon at all and takes regular fights.

Yup keep him busy with fights, then he dont hav excuses to balloon. Still think he's one of the best when it comes to ripping up. Damn when i saw how ripped he was against Castillo, my ribs started hurtin from then. GOOOO OOOONNNN RICKY FATTON!

He didn't puff up too much before JLC because the contract was signed immediately after the Urango fight and since he only had a relatively short break he stayed focused, if he can get another fight arranged quickly then he won't puff out so much.

Im inbetween i think its good that he can enjoy himself and he shows that hes down to earth and is like everyone else. But also i think it could pose a risk and sometimes (like now and up to the mayweather bout ) he should stay in shape rather than ballooning up and then having to work hard to get back down. But its good to see he can enjoy himself and still be a great boxer.

only way i can see it hurting him is stamina but like you guys said they pay for nutrientist so i dont think it should hurt him but he has only been 12 rounds 7 times out of 43 fights.....i think PBF,Cotto, Mosley, Margo, or een ODH if he fights him...a 12 round fight could be grueling because they are very good fighters as opposed to the 12 rounds he went with the other 7 lesser fighters but who knows he's undefeated now while doing it so maybe thats just what he does.

He has paid for ballooning between fights, about £2million each fight thats how he has paid,do you really think he gives a **** what us mear mortals think about his lifestyle? I think not,he is a freak of nature,he can and is having his cake and eating it and all this while becoming a wealthy man, like i said i envy him. Im going to the world darts champion (Phil Taylor) shop at the weekend where you can meet him and Ricky for a signing so i will take a pic if i can and post it and we can see what shape he is in but be warned, there is a pub over the road...! lol.
