There's so much more to do at 168 for Ward, he should not be thinking about 175 atm.

He's too small, that's the problem. 173.4 2 and a half weeks before. He won't make 175 comfortably.

Virgil has also stated that 168 is the next step, he has business to take care of.

The run-up weigh-ins don't mean very much. Look how little the month before weigh-in meant for Geale, he was a true zombie.

Virgil would like to protect him. Look at how he has handled Khan, no challenges. Virgil is very protective of his fighters.

I think Ward is a great talent who needs great challenges to show us all what he can do.

3 fights at 172 already, he needs to move up.

He'll move back down, which is something he should do. He's not being protected. He's fighting at his weight class, there's weight divisions for a reason.

Did Hagler move up? No he didn't.

You don't always have to move up.

Fighting DeGale/Groves/Froch/Jack = amazing. I wanna see those fights.

Hagler comparison is not a very good one. Hagler's last fight was in April of 1987. WBC did not have a SMW title until 1988. WBA did not have one until December of 1987, WBO did not have one until 1988. IBF had one from '84 on but was a fledgling organization and the title was seen as essentially meaningless as it changed hands between Murray Sutherland and Chong-Pal Park. Instead of moving up to fight Sutherland or Park, Hagler fought Hearns, Mugabi and Leonard in that time. If there was a meaningful SMW title for Marvin to fight for at 168 he surely would have. But there was not. All the toughest fights for him were at 160 so he stayed where the toughest fights were to prove his greatness. :nod

That is what greatness does. :nod

Ward is ready to move up, I hope he takes the big test and shows us how great he truly is. Would be an amazing accomplishment. :nod

He could have moved up to LHW, that's what greatness is. But he didn't. Leonard moved up from 47 to 68, Hearns 147 to 175.

No one is saying that he should never move up.

It's just that we want to see a fair fight. I've been saying this since the beginning of this conversation.

When his body gets more accustomed to 175, that's when we should see him move up. After cleaning out 168.

No one is asking Ward to go 2 divisions :nono Just one.

Ward's body is ready for 175, Hagler's certainly wasn't ready to jump 15 lbs. Ward should stop cutting and having fights at 172. It will be bad for him in the long run. 3 fights already at 172 is making me concerned when he goes back to making 168. Can't be good for him.

    He clearly isn't though.

He clearly said that he isn't, Virgil said it too.

Why do you keep assuming that he is? :think

You don't know as much as he does.

He clearly wants to fight at 68. Virgil is the one who suggested 172 to give him some leverage in weight. But Ward's hard training was out of his expectations. He's 173.4 2 and a half weeks b4.

He'll go up, just after he adjusts to that weight class.

I think he is. Three 172 lb catchweight fights tells me that quite clearly. 168 must be a real struggle. I think Virgil is misdirecting us to draw attention away from the Kovalev fight. I hope Virgil stops protecting him. Andre is ready to fight anyone and I think he has a very good chance against Sergey. Hopefully we get to see it while both are still prime. Would be a shame to wait till Sergey is old.

You might have had a point if he was 183-185 2 and a half weeks b4. But he isn't.

He clearly said in the past interviews (months ago) that he wasn't ready for 175 yet.

Virgil said recently that he isn't. Why do you keep assuming it? :think. Makes me think that you really don't like the man at all.

I wanna see that fight too, but i want to see a fair fight.

The run-up weights mean very little to me. Look at the Geale-Cotto fight. Cotto was 5 lbs heavier than Geale a month before the fight.

I think Andre is great. Just hope he challenges himself.

I think he's great too but putting him in there that quickly against the most dominant force at 75 without his body being full ready and without a proper fight there is just ridiculous.

    Almost a 2 year layoff.

Why do you not have the same expectations for Gennady? :-:)think

Or Kovalev, why do you not want to see Kovalev move up to CW and fight Drozd/Lebedev/YPH/Huck?

    It's just Ward.. everytime.

No one is beating Ward within one weight class of 168. Kovalev is the hope of some here to beat Ward? Kovalev would look slower than a sloth against Ward. GGG? Just another boxing clinic put on by Ward.

I think you're not up to date on the scene, kovalev destroys ward.
