There's so much more to do at 168 for Ward, he should not be thinking about 175 atm.

I have said many times I would like to see GGG move up and fight Ward. The LHW to CW jump is unique due to the 25 lb gap. If it was a normal gap I would like to see Kovalev move up too.

Roy moved from 160 to HW, it's not out of the question.

    25 is very doable.

I just think it's bull****, Ward still has business at 68 and when his body can't make 168 anymore, he should move up, but not now.

He said it could be 1-3 years.

Why would you not want to see that?

Kovalev can fight Stevenson or Beterbiev

Ward can fight Froch/GGG (If he moves up, something I don't expect him to because there are weight divisions for a reason), Jack, Groves.

Once Ward can move up, he will do it.

    But now? No way.

I think it'll be a great fight 1-3 years from now, whenever Ward moves there on his own volition.

I think he can do it now if he wants to but Virgil is worried about Kovalev. That's just my opinion. You don't have to agree. If it's in the next 2 years that's okay too. I hope he doesn't wait until Kovalev gets old though, that would be very sad.

Ward wouldn't do that. I just want the fight to be fair.

Kovalev stays dominating, Ward goes up when his body is fighting fit for that weight class. Both of them at their fullest potential. He should stay at 168 at the meantime, taking care of business. Kovalev should take care of business against Stevenson/Beterbiev too.

I don't think Virgil is protecting anyone from anything.

If he was, he wouldn't put Angulo in with Canelo. Or Ward in the super 6, where he was a heavy underdog at the start. :deal

When both fighters are at their peak, it would be a far more special fight. That's all I'm saying.

I only suggested the catchweight because people want the fight to happen NOW (Ward not being accustomed to the weight, 2 years of layoff).

Who knows how Sergey will age? He could be shot by 34. These things happen overnight sometimes. Hopefully we get to see the fight while both guys are going strong. Would be very sad if one or both were on the downside because Ward was squeezing down to fight and school Badou Jack in a mismatch.

Do you think there's anyone who could potentially beat Kovalev's prime out of him?

He hasn't had enough fits or taken any sort of big punishment to even suggest that he'd be shot in 2 years.

You could argue naturally, but I HIGHLY doubt it. 34 is young in modern day standards.

You don't have to worry about that.

If he gets his prime beaten out of him, then the new opponent should be the new challenge, no?

Everyone ages differently. Sergey may be shot by 34, we just don't know. Hopefully it happens soon while both are strong and healthy.

Glad to see you have your excuse ready-made for when Ward clowns him.

That would be for the best, let us hope this happens.

I acknowledge that everyone ages differently, but he's looking phenomenal right now. So the chances of him being shot in 2 years, is low imo. But it could happen, not saying it won't.

No excuses, I'm just hoping the fight happens with both guys at the height of their powers. They're both very special fighters.

Not everyone hates the fighters you like, take a deep breath.

Shot was a bad word choice on my part, I just hope neither guy is in any way past his best if the fight ever happens. :good

    Strictly theoretical question

Let's say Ward looks like complete garbage against Paul Smith. What then?

Retire maybe, don't want to see him fighting if he doesn't have it any more.

Or take another tuneup and see how things go. If he still doesn't look like remotely the same fighter then definitely consider retirement.
