Show me an amatuer whose progressed faster than him in the last 5 years.

And no-one has been as hyped as him, because he's the most deserving of hype. Again, name another amatuer who has deserved as much hype?

The only person I can think of, in terms of being a hyped amatuer, is Amir Khan. And Gamboa is leagues ahead of him.

 

ummm ...cotto is a 2 division champion with 2 ...maybe 3 knock downs to his name ... out of 30+ fights ..this does not mean he has a BAD chin ... at all ...hell yeah a fighter is gonna get rocked ... it happens ..its a fight dummy ..what did you think they was in there doing bakeing brownies???

 

i'll put it like this ...cotto wasn't getting knocked down and rocked by nobodies in his like 10 or 11th fight ... this guy is a big difference

 

i saw many times tito trinidad going down and get up to win...does it make it a lesser fighter?...JMM has been down 4 times against Pac...isnt he a top p4p?...so why if gamboa goes down but knows how to get up and win some people have a problem with it?

Khan has been hyped but nobody bought into his hype outside of teh casual fans ..as a matter of fact..most expected him to get Koed sooner or later...Khan might be a less gifted fighter than Gamboa but hes clearly technically superior sans the glass chin...

If you look at the great amateurs in the last 25 years..The Whitakers, Taylors, even Breland...**** even Lacy...they ****in disposed early oppositions like it was a toilet break...only when they faced stiffer competitions that the holes in their games showed up...

This guy as fast as he is so bad defensively that it totally outweights his skill level..Kellerman is hurting inside by not being able to hug his balls but he just couldnt with these flaws of his..he knows its a big big flaw..that if he can get hit and he can get hurt by Joe Schmoe...then what if a live contender

I won't say his chin is glass, but he fights stupid. Much too agressive and out of position. If he'd relax just a LITTLE bit he'd be better off and not get caught.

That said, you guys keep saying he was rocked, that didn't happen. I haven't seem him "truly" hurt yet. He wasn't even hurt by that elbow, he went down, but he got up and despite the one other shot that landed by Rameriez he won the rest of the 1st round.

 

Because most of Trinidad's KD's were cause of his shitty balance early in fights. And are you really gonna compare getting KD by the #1 P4P fighter in the world to guys like Jimenez and Ramirez???

 

i like gamboa, and have been a fan of his since i saw his fights on you tube. i really hope he does'nt turn into a nother khan, cause this guy is seriously talented. he needs to sttle down more and try not to blitz guys right away. when he gets wild he gets tagged. cut that hands at waist **** out too. at least he got rid of this ramirez like he should have.

 

As far as handspeed...hes up there with Taylor and Roy..

I don't understand everyone saying that Ramirez was shiet. Before the fight, I THOUGHT ramirez was shiet because of his opposition. He just wasn't tested, nothing could tell us that he wouldnt do well vs good fighter. But dammit he freakin impressed me!!!!!!! Ramirez did fight very well, did you see his handspeed? Man he even dared enter in phenomenal punch exchanges with Gamboa and you could see there was strenght in there.... The man has TEN FIRST ROUND KOs (and I think he was never KD, not sure), I don't care if it's all people with 0-0 stats, 10 first round KOs is impressive no matter what.

 

And for the record, yes the guy doesn't have defence and if he doesn't fix the way he fights he could be in big trouble vs the elite, but let's not make a big deal about an elbow knockdown and start talking chins... please!
