This is all about marketing. Beterbiev has the personality of dried paint. It is also a very thin division.
A lot of factors decide why one fighter is a star and another isn't and it goes beyond if a fighter is marketable or not. Nationality and the inbuilt fan base that provides is one and even if you're from a nation with a boxing following it also depends where you come from, some small town with few home town fans like Calzaghe saw him fight in obscurity for years even after beating a big name like Eubank or a big city with a football team who's fans can latch onto a boxer like with Hatton who was filling arenas well before he fought Tszyu. Then you need the competition and fact is who is there for Beterbiev to fight who was a big name fighter who was a big draw? If Pac had a featherweight division bereft of a Barrera and Morales the the division hadn't had a Hamed to draw eyes to that weight class would he have gotten the opportunities at higher weights and would anyone even know who Pac is now outside of the hardcore? Then you need the right people behind you who will push you as a big name before you've made it. Not just the managers and promoters but the networks the way HBO pushed Golovkin or Sky pushed Usyk with the aid of Matchroom though of course with Usyk it was more to build him up as a Joshua opponent for Joshua's benefit rather than Usyk's but Usyk still benefited from it hence why despite being some Ukrainian who speaks little English he draws big in the UK against the right opponent.
It just seems like all he's missing is that last piece. Fan friendly style, personable, some countrymen are doing big things, meanwhile he's in the same division as the biggest draw in the sport and several other worthy rivals (some since retired). If the LHW division got hot Benavidez, Plant, Morrell, and maybe even Jermall Charlo would come up. Unfortunately he's trapped in the Montreal gyre that sucks up talented Russian boxers.
not what I heard. He got over 200 million yen and he made over 200 million for the butler fight and he is excepted to make around 380 million yen for the fulton fight.
Yarde has fought a bunch of uber drivers and scrubs in his career. He should be happy about the amount he made with that fight because he didn't even deserve the title shot in the first place. He basically got that title shot for beating Lyndon Arthur after losing the first fight lol. It's insane that people are saying he deserves more. For what? Beating up D level part time fighters and bouncers? **** off. Beterbiev deserves more. Yeah. But it is what it is. He's not a huge draw. He doesn't sell out stadiums and he's not a PPV star. In the end WE - the fans - deciding who's getting the money and how much.
Canelo is nothing like Beterbiev. He had many dance partner that brought viewers. The GGG fight, the unifications, and the climbing from 154 to 175. Canelo also speaks very well to his Mexican fan base. Khabib is a different sport but he too had big dance partner like McGregor to get his name out .
This is a reason why domestic clashes are so sought after, more fake rivalrty more hype, less risk, more chance to win more money.
